The cincy enqurier is reporting that UC has asked permission from Houston to speak with Sumlin.

This news makes me happy. He's my personal number 1 choice.
Certainly aces the "Total Offense" record - but Houston's Total Defense ranks 108th (UC's currently 48th).

Don't know if 108th is an aberration - but it certainly doesn't sound great.

agreed. I believe for UC to to compete in the big east the offense has to be first rate. I believe it is easier for a middling program to recruit that side of the ball.
Considering Sumlin was a LB before he became an offensive coach I don't have grave concern that the defense would be ignored, though.

Just amazing to have an undefeated season and playing in the Sugar Bowl and no coach. Man...

We are pretty fortunate that when we go looking for a coach, it's a time of renewal and optimism; not despair and getting smacked with cold, hard reality of our real place in the pecking order. The coaches we lose are the ones we tell to get lost.

Only coaches that I can remember leaving who we didn't want to go were Gary Williams (for his alma mater) and Tara Van der Veer (for lifestyle reasons). I'm sure that there might be a couple here and there in Olympic sports but none that I can think of.

Does anyone else get the "poor man's da U" vibe off of Cincy? University named for the city in which it resides, long-standing regional football program with little or no pre-modern national success, delusional non-alumni Internet fans, more media attention than deserved, mouthy attitude from players, overestimating their place in CFB, revolving door head coaches, attendance more appropriate to the MAC, and last but not least, coming to prominence by dominating the Big East?

It's sort of like everything you'd love to hate in the 'Canes, but in a low calorie, bite sized, conveniently located package. See you in 2012, kitties.

Sorta, but the biggest difference is that Dantionio/Kelly ran a clean program with good graduation rates, remembering that the grad rates currently talked about are for Dantonio teams and/or recruits. That and a few national championships.

Grillz that Killz is really the only "U" level loudmouth on that team.

I think the foundation is there, but UC really needs to find their Football Huggins to take it to the U's level. First step, however, was running off Zimpher as she never would have stood for it. Does Barry Switzer have a grandkid in coaching? Just saying he might be worth a look.

#5. Jeff Jagodzinski- OC for the Tampa Bay Bucs. He went 20-8 as Boston College's head coach. 11-3 his first year and 9-3 his second year when he had to replace Matt Ryan. He has shown somewhat he can win at the collegiate level.

I wonder if that guy is aware that Jagodzinski was fired for trying to leave BC, and was then fired from his OC position before the NFL season even began.

Yeah - but Raheem Morris has fired 3 different people from his staff. OC/DC/QB coach.

[censored] - I got a letter from the Bucs front office letting me know that I was on thin ice.
