Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

Uh-oh bearcat fans...

Obviously just speculation, but there is a precident here. Also, if nd does hire him, it would make a ton of sense to try to get him in there for the bowl to start him working on Clausen and Tate returning next year. What better way than having them play for him?

I fully expect Brian Kelly to leave for Notre Dame. I just don't see him not coaching the bowl game for Cincinnati. The key to him taking over after Dantonio left was that the International Bowl was played on Jan. 6th of that season giving Kelly and his staff a full 33 days to prep...If Notre Dame is playing in a Dec. 23rd bowl game and UC's season is ending on December 5th, I just don't see how that's a lot of time to impliment things from his system...
just my opinion.

That's a good point.

Even 2 weeks of practice time is invaluable to Kelly and whoever he brings as staff. The opportunity to meet and evaluate players, look at the recruiting class, potentially talk to recruits (can recruits visit for bowl practices?).....if you can get him for any bowl practice time at all, I think it'd be huge. Less about implementing his system, but more about short-term success and 2010.

That is a great point.

For what is worth, Kelly told WEBN during his weekly morning interview that he was not leaving Cincinnati and is committed to building the program. He also mentioned how much he and his family like it here.
could be a smoke screen but he did sound sincere.

Pretty much every coach says that.

I am not a candidate for the Alabama job.

you're absolutely right. That's why I added the 'FWIW' as a disclaimer.

I will say that Kelly is too media savy, though, to throw around contradictions. He danced around the question all week until today when he flat out said he wasn't leaving.

to me, it sounds like he realizes that Notre Dame won't be calling him and now was the perfect time to make the pre-emptive strike.

...And didn't Thad Matta say he wasn't leaving Xavier? I can see a lot of UC football fans acting out the same way as Xavier basketball fans did (and still do).

If I were the AD at Cincinnati and knew Kelly intended to take another job I wouldn't want him running the program as a lame duck coach when they could be getting the new guy out there recruiting and running bowl practices, which go a long way toward getting ready for the next season. The only reason I could see for keeping him for the bowl game would be if they thought they couldn't win it without him, they might think winning their bowl game (especially if it's a BCS game) would go further than getting the new guy going.

97.1 is reporting that Kelly is "the guy" for the ND job as far as ND is concerned. They didn't go so far as to say he's accepted any deal, but it looks like he's the first offer.

I wish I could come up with something cute for Cinci fans to put on a T-Shirt... something like...

BriaN Kelly, heaD coach
