I'm in the band and this was only a response to the 700 WLW commercials making fun of OSU only being able to spell a 4 letter word and only being able to dot one I. This will not be a tradition, just one year because all of OSU land freaked out at the commercials.

So, whose idea was it? The Truckin' Bozo or Bill Cunningham? That's inspired. I guess I'd have a boner over UC too if I had to spend the other eight months of the year covering the fucking Reds.

FWIW, out of three i-dotters, not a single one showed good form. You'd think they would've been able to prepare a little better since they didn't have to worry about playing any music during the game.

It is getting sad. Its getting to the point where I'm not even mad at UC anymore. I get what they are doing. They are trying to create an in-state rivalry where there is none. What makes me mad are the Ohio State fans that say we need to support UC because they are from Ohio. Puuhhhlease.

Their antics are pathetic and its unbecoming of any program of worthy support, respect or credibility.

I agree. You know, Joe Pa is a very clever man. I think it would be best if we do what PSU did to Pittsburgh and stopped playing them altogether. They would whine and cry about it but at the end what can they do? Nothing.

There is only one thing essential for a big time program, and that is a large fanbase. (Perhaps the only exception is Miami for a lot of different reasons.) And you know they will never be bigtime just as a city team. Especially since that city will always have some Ohio State, Kentucky and Notre Dame fans.

Their only hope is creating some kind of rivalry with Ohio State and build a fanbase in the rest of the state. Afterall, even Michigan has a lot of fans here due to their rivalry with us. That is why you see Buckeye State and Ohio's BCS team stuff. It is not just hate or whatever. It is a clear marketing ploy. Well, why even give them the opportunity? I lived in Pittsburgh for a while and I know how much not playing PSU hurt Pittsburgh. You probably know that son of Pitt's tennis coach, an OL recruit, verbaled to PSU this year. And we are talking about Pittsburgh here; they have multiple championships and a glorious history.

Some people think beating them will help shut them up but win or lose that would only help them. At least that is why I believe.

Give them credit, though. They managed to get a 19+ page response here with those antics. And once again this is a carefully planned marketing ploy, not something spontaneous.

I still say Curt Gowdy had the best line of all time regarding Cincinnati. When commenting on why the construction of Riverfront Stadium was taking so long he said, "Its Kentucky's turn to use the cement mixer."

Best Post I've seen on this yet. We play out our upcoming series; win of course; and never schedule them again.

What can they do? Complain that we are ducking them? Sure, but it would just be a lot of hot air.

Having lived and worked in the suburbs north of the Nati for the better part of my childhood, I can say this: at least someone is trying to make that a good sports town. It's been a terrible place for sports fans for the past 2 decades - since the Reds won the World Series. I mean, it's not just bad, but awful. They've had some of the worst ownership in MLB and the NFL for as long as I can remember. If they can somehow convince Brian Kelly to stay and remain not horrible for a few years until the new stadium is complete, they might be worth a crap. I don't see that happening, though, because that job has been a ladder rung for years, and probably always will be.

For taos, from wiki:
Sid Gillman has long been the standard-bearer for Bearcat coaching greats. Gillman, whose 50-13-1 record in his six seasons in the late 1940s and early 1950s is the winningest mark at UC, is one of the few coaches to earn induction into both the college and professional football halls of fame. His UC success vaulted him into the NFL, with the Los Angeles Rams.

Two other members of the College Football Hall of Fame, Frank Cavanaugh and George Little, launched their head coaching careers at UC. Cavanaugh, the legendary "Iron Major" for his accomplishments as a coach and war hero at Army, in 1898, and Little, who earned fame at Michigan and Wisconsin, in 1914-15.

One-time Bearcat mentors Homer Rice (1967-68), and Chuck Studley (1961-66) were NFL head coaches at Cincinnati and Houston, respectively, as were former assistants Leeman Bennett (Atlanta) and Jack Faulkner (Denver).

Up North, former Bearcat player and coach Dave Ritchie directed British Columbia and Winnipeg to Grey Cup titles, the Canadian Football League's Super Bowl, a feat that former UC quarterback Danny Barrett would like to match as head coach at Saskatchewan.

Nick Skorich, a member of the UC Athletic Hall of Fame for his football prowess in the 1940s, was head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns.
more recent names as UC assistants
UC's representation in the college coaching ranks is highlighted by a trio of former assistants. Paul Dietzel, an aide to Gillman in 1949-50, directed LSU to the national title in 1958 and later coached at Army and South Carolina. Dick MacPherson, a UC assistant in the early 1960s, concluded a distinguished career at Syracuse. Don Nehlen, on the 1963 UC staff, was West Virginia's winningest coach following his 21 seasons there. Other UC assistants to garner head coaching positions include Foge Fazio (Pittsburgh), Mark Duffner (Holy Cross), Chuck Stobart (Toledo, Utah, Memphis), Lou West (Indiana State) and Ron Zook (Florida, Illinois).

Marshall won all of its games in 1999 ... Utah in 2004 ... Boise State in 2006 ... Cincy's in the same boat, as far as I'm concerned.

Cincy has played one currently-ranked team, that being Oregon State (#16 this week), a team that was unranked at the time. So, they've played one decent team ... big deal. See Marshall, Utah, Boise State, above.

Somehow this is all being swept under the rug. As much as grief as Boise State and TCU catch this year, Boise's win over Oregon and TCU's win over Clemson were each more impressive than anything UC's done this year.

On an unrelated note, Big East officials once again make it really, REALLY difficult not to be a conspiracy theorist when the Big East has a dog in the NC race.
