North Carolina State coach Chuck Amato was fired Sunday, a day after the Wolfpack lost to East Carolina 21-16, their seventh consecutive loss to finish the season, sources close to the situation said Sunday night.
The Wolfpack finished this season with a 3-9 record, 2-6 in the ACC, and lost consecutive games to Akron and Southern Mississippi.
Amato had a 49-37 record in seven seasons at NC State, including a 25-31 mark in ACC games. The Wolfpack never finished higher than fourth in the ACC standings during Amato's tenure.
NC State athletics director Lee Fowler is expected to announce Amato's firing later Sunday night.
