Where did I say Wormley was so much better?

I said that I think Washington is definitely the better HS player right now, that they are very close, and that I happen to like Wormley's upside more, but that their upsides are pretty close.

Wormley is far from a finished product. The kind of size and athletic ability that he has, you just can't teach. The kid is a legit 6'6, 260+ pounds but carries his weight like he's 225. Very strong kid with great balance that is light on his feet and that can move. Still pretty raw, but the sky is the limit for him.

I think he carries it more like he's 280 lbs.

Wormley is very good, but his potential is a better Ryan Van Bergen IMO, or maybe a poor man's Mike Martin if he slides inside(which is his ideal spot IMO). Don't expect him to be a terror off the edge getting a ton of sacks, cause that just won't be his game and shouldn't be. I don't think he's explosive enough to do that. However, he is strong enough to be good against the run and collapse the pocket.

The kid does not look 280. Not even close. Looks like he's 225. My guess is you have never seen him by making that comment.

Comparing him to Ryan Van Bergen is laughable at best. As high school prospect alone, he completely blows Ryan Van Bergen out of the water.

Comparing him to Mike Martin is pretty questionable. Mike is barely over 6'1 and is a former HS wrestler that has only played on the interior of the line his entire HS and collegiate career. Their body structure and their games are nothing alike. At all.

Comparing him to Van Bergen isn't an insult. Van Bergen is a solid Big Ten caliber player, and Wormley can exceed that if he puts in the work and things workout injury wise. I don't think his potential is greater than being an all Big Ten type player, but that's pretty darn good.

The comparison to Martin wasn't on body type (obviously they're different), but more on potential playing style. I think Wormley is best suited to be an active interior player (like Martin).

I think getting Wormley makes Michigan's pursuit of O'Brian a lot less pressing, because I see Wormley being a 3 tech one day collapsing the pocket and causing general havoc, and he'll be darn good at that too IMO.

Since you've apparently seen a ton of Wormley film, who would you compare him too?

I actually think he plays an awful lot like Cameron Heyward. Great bull-rush and size at DE. He definately looks like he'd be a good gap attacker at DT. I think he can project at DE or DT depending on how Mattison decides to use him.

Michigan got a good one, no doubt.

In other news, I just can't wait for the season to start so Michigan can win 7 maybe 8 games and this momentum Hoke has built in the last few months based on NCAA infractions wears off.....props to Hoke for getting all of these commitments early in the process however, he's getting these kids to pull the trigger before the season starts, which is really counter-productive to the kids but great for him.

how is it counter productive? other than them maybe not getting the full recruiting experience. I don't follow that. Could you expand?

I think what he means is that these kids are committing to Hoke without the benefit of seeing if he can actually coach at the highest level in college football, more less right the ship in what has become a mess up in Ann Arbor. It is counterproductive to the kids in the sense that if he can't improve things up there, do these kids really want the showcase game of their college careers to continue to be blowout losses in a bad bowl game like the Gator Bowl? Not only that, but it's also counterproductive in the sense that they may be making their decisions based on negative recruiting and a lack of information (OSU penalties, if any, to come out later this month), if you believe the reports that Hoke is negatively recruiting against OSU.

As an aside, haven't you pretty consistently advocated for kids taking their time in deciding and taking most, if not all, of their official visits when recruiting? I ask just because it seems like you're questioning billmac for doing the same, and you're seemingly changing your tune, when a guy commits to UM relatively early in the process.

There is very little reason to commit this early in the process. They have the opportunity to see how Fickell does on the sidelines, and how Hoke will do on the sidelines as well. From that standpoint, there is really very little reason to commit this early in the process.

If I'm a recruit, I want to collect as much information before pulling the trigger as possible. In the cases of of guys like Wormley and Kalis, a spot will be held for them regardless. Why not gather all of that information first, before assuming Ohio State will be rocked with NCAA penalties. Before assuming Michigan is BACK!!!1!!11 What if Hoke has a .500 record this year, and Ohio State cake-walks to a BIG Title?

I just don't understand a lot of these kid who a few months ago said things were pretty even between Ohio State and Michigan, and are now pulling the trigger a good 7 months before signing day....

to 07, yeah, I am an advocate of these kids taking as many recruiting trips as they can. But just because they have verbaled, doesn't mean they can't still take the trips. I won't be 100% on a kid until he actually signs his papers on signing day. Until then, I see the verbal as a nice thing, but nothing set in stone.

I think kids like Washington - who are truly torn - are wise to wait.

Wormley has been looking for any reason to be a Wolverine. He was 50-50 on the heels of the most hideous era in Michigan history, and no sign of Tressel slowing down (before the scandal broke).

He wants to be a Wolverine. That's not going to change, even when the sanctions turn out to be mild, unlike the doom promised by opposing recruiters (Bielema?). Others will be a different story.
