Chris Holtmann (ex-tOSU Bball coach, HC at DePaul)

No real choice at this point.

1 bad season will happen from time to time, but this season has followed the exact same pattern. The voice needed to change - and honestly the roster isn't compatible with Big Ten basketball really. They lack the mental and physical grit to get the job done despite looking the part at times. It's not natural to them as a group.

OSU is a top-25 program and that should be the baseline going forward. Holtmann had mostly held that line but when it cratered, it cratered totally.
9-25 in conference the last two seasons is mind-boggling. He never exactly tore the conference up, aside from 15-3 in year one, but talk about falling off a cliff...

Yeah - what sucks is what I consider his best team got kneecapped by COVID in 2020. That team had the grit I'm talking about. I sort of expected last year to be a mess with 9 transfers to fill out the roster but this year wasn't going to be like that supposedly.

Whoever they hire is going to have to be ok with being 2nd fiddle to football and also able to recruit somewhat nationally like Holtmann did. I do think the people on X and Fucknuts thinking someone like Jay Wright is coming to Columbus are on some seriously good drugs and I'd wish they'd share.

Oh, you know whoever they hire isn't going to be good enough. A large segment of our fanbase seems to think 2006-13 Thad Matta is this program's baseline.

Matta didn’t win a title so he’s not the baseline.

If UF can win titles, why can’t tOSU? When I went to school, tennis was nothing. Now they are a top 5 program nationally.

Losers mentality to say we cant have a top basketball program

Noone expects Ohio St basketball to be Kansas or Duke obviously, but they also shouldn't be like the 8th best program in the Big 10
Ohio State with all of its resources should be competing for B1G titles and competitive in the NCAA's most years. The occasional down year is to be expected, but consistent trips out of the tournament's opening weekend and consistently competing for the B1G should be the expectation. I'm not expecting Matta results, where deep tourney runs were the expectation annually, per se, but it has to be orders of magnitude better than this.
