I saw reason for optimism Saturday night. Much like with the young OL, it's going to be a process as the season goes on. A lot of the credit on 3rd downs has to go to the VT QB and receivers. They made some great plays. The more aggressive scheme had a direct impact on the turnovers, particularly Apple's interception early on. I think by season's end, this is going to be a very good defense. There's just going to be some bumps along the way. I think those bumps will be fewer and further between as they get more experience in the system, though.

The improvement in the secondary has been remarkable. Ash has done a fantastic job with his guys, particularly Doran Grant and Eli Apple. Grant has really played his way into the top half of the NFL draft

For the record I'm very lukewarm on Chryst. I think he's better suited as an OC in the long term.
