Cholesterol Question(s) MERGED

My doc said the best thing is to lose weight. I just had my cholesterol read and it was 150. It was done right after I lost 25 pounds. I wish I would have had it read right before I started losing the weight to compare.

If you have not had it read I would suggest starting there. Since there are parts that make up the total cholesterol number you may want to find out if any of those parts need improvement. Like I mentioned in the other thread, I want to increase my good cholesterol number. It looks like I need to drink beer and eat onions to accomplish that.

I've been eating oatmeal almost every day for the past few years. With brown sugar and cinnamon to make it less boring.

I need to get checked, though, I haven't gotten my cholesterol number in many years.

Statins, the class of drug that Lipitor and Zocor belong to, are very well tolerated. If you did an internet search, you would see all sorts of horror stories, but it is all overblown.
Nausea and upset stomach is uncommon.
Your doc needs to check your liver enzymes occasionally. If there is an elevation, he may stop the drug. But the chance of causing serious liver damage is basically zero.
Muscle aches are not common but could potentially signal a serious complication so you would need to tell your doctor immediately.

To put it simply, aspirin is more dangerous than lipitor

I HIGHLY recommend going and getting a physical so you can see where you're at health wise.

Yeah, I know. I just put it off each year. I get a couple of colds a year, and that's the only time I am sick, I am right around the target weight for my height, no family history of early death, etc., etc...

All just excuses not to go. :!
