2024 NFL Mock Draft: Bears make first two picks overall as five quarterbacks are taken in Round 1
Two teams -- the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers -- are winless and the draft order does not matter because the corresponding first-round selections belong to the Bears. In today's thought exercise, we explore the teams that could explore taking a quarterback in the first round and the veterans who could be out the door as a result.
The draft order below was determined using Tankathon, which uses records and strength of schedule as a tiebreaker.
Round 1
Round 1 - Pick 1: Caleb Williams QB...Chicago can not have the first overall selection for the second consecutive year and not take a quarterback. They are not in this position by accident so they stay put and take Caleb Williams.
Round 1 - Pick 2 (From Carolina Panthers): Marvin Harrison Jr. WR...D.J. Moore and Marvin Harrison Jr. are a great way for Caleb Williams to begin his career.
Just sayin': If that happens Fields will probably be gone (i.e traded) in 2024. He really needs a fresh start with another team.
Fields signed a rookie contract of four years with the Chicago Bears. The contract is worth $18.87 million and will earn around $4.7 million per year. He also received a signing bonus of $11.085 million.
He's still on his rookie contract and if his 5th year option is exercised he won't be an UFA until the 2026 season. For what QBs are getting now (i.e $50M/year), he'd be a real bargain for 2024/2025.
Bears traded for Montez Sweat without having a contract agreement in place. Bears might have traded another high second round pick, this time for a rental. Makes sense.
