Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

sportsline

With pressure mounting at the Dome, Weis' silence is Golden

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Forty-two seconds.

That's how long it took Charlie Weis to contemplate the question that defines his program at the moment.

Do you feel pressure?

Read into those four words what you want: Pressure to win a national championship, pressure to fulfill a monstrous contact, pressure to get Notre Dame out of a deep, deep hole, pressure to get his personal groove back.

"I never feel pressure from outside if that's what you're saying," Weis said, starting out. "I just feel like, what's the right word? ..."

And then the pregnant pause as Notre Dame's coach -- seated comfortably in a Guglielmino Athletics Complex meeting room this week -- stared into space contemplating his answer.

For 42 seconds.

Cont'd ...

Oh, come ON! This is just too easy! I mean, where do you even start? The pressure his poor feet feel every day? The pressure the unfortunate belt is subjected to? My god.....so....many.....jokes..........

"I never feel pressure from outside if that's what you're saying,"

All I can think of is that scene from Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life".

I keep reading all of these changes CW is making - and many do sound on target. But in their wake you have to ask just what did he have to recommend himself in the first place? He brought ZERO to this job.

"If you don't let the coaches coach then you can't be the head coach," Weis said. "My question was, was I the head coach or was I the offensive coordinator? My answer is I was probably too high a percentage offensive coordinator and not a higher percentage enough a head coach."
 Delegation, though, goes both ways.
"Now, in return ..." he told his coaches. "The accountability factor has to go up exponentially."

I doubt that Weisminster Abbey actually understands what exponential growth truly is, at least in the way he used it here pertaining to accountability. Another sign of a massive ego.

"The accountability factor has to go up..."

Translation 1: I have really screwed the pooch here. Now I need you guys to either fix it or take the blame for my screw ups.

Translation 2: This is so screwed up that I don't have a clue what to do. Offensive genius? Hell, I can't offend anyone unless I show them nude pictures of me. Let's get someone in here that might. If they succeed, I'll take the credit. If they don't, I'll blame it all on them.

Translation 3: Oh shit, what a screw up! Did I tell you about my charity work? How 'bout that unfortunate kid I let call a play?

Naw, it's cool OCBF. I was pointing out the tremendous pressure his belt is feeling from him, while you were pointing out the tremendous pressure he is feeling from his belt. Clearly a different joke. :p

You guys are getting all bent out o' shape about whether it's Chuckie or his belt that is getting the brunt of the pressue. Perhaps you don't realize this, but because of the enormous mass of the combined Weis/belt sphere, it creates its own gravity field and thus doesn't feel the pressure as other outside objects do. The real danger here are the objects that are being pulled towards this deadly mass.
