Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Lots of rival fans hate the way Weis talks, the way he carries himself, the way he runs his program. But 18-year-old football stars apparently eat it up. Weis' last two classes were ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Exactly why I have zero sympathy for anyone who chooses to join that sinking ship. The writing is now clearly on the wall, and they have only themselves to blame for the consequences.

Jim Tressel: turning 3* recruits into Lombardi/Biletnikoff/Heisman winners and 1st round draft choices who play for national championships

Charlie Weis: turning 5* recruits into third round draft picks who sit home in January.

Because this recruiting class won't be tainted from picking up the bad habits of Ty Willingham's players.

Duh.

people believe what they read and those funny rival/scout rankings:tongue2:

I hope the next class for OSU wasn't jinx by rival/scout ranking.

I've been reading this talent gap excuse from ND since about week three. Here's what I don't get. If the Juniors and Seniors are so horrible at football and Chuck's Freshmen and Sophmores are top tier, out of this world players, then why the hell are 14 of 22 starters on that team Juniors and Seniors?! If Charlie's kids are such superior athletes and football talents, why the hell are only 8 of them starting? It would appear that they have eight seniors and six juniors from the so called talent depleted recruits of Ty, who are better than anything Chuck has recruited.

As fun as it might sound, you don't want to lose your virginity to Jenna Jameson. You won't last long. She'll get bored and frustrated. And everyone who sees the tape will fall down laughing. Sounds like most Notre Dame games this year, doesn't it?

Weis selling, but not coaching

The prevailing question the day Notre Dame married Charlie Weis was this: Can the guy recruit?
Could a coach who had spent his previous 15 years in an NFL film room hit the town and convince Johnny Quarterback to pledge his allegiance to Notre Dame?
How things have changed. Now it seems the only thing Weis can do is recruit.

In the midst of all this, Notre Dame continues to build its top-ranked recruiting class. The day after USC blanked the Irish 38-0, receiver Michael Floyd became the latest to commit.
Floyd, who goes 6 feet 3 inches and runs a sub-4.6 40-yard dash, reportedly also had offers from Ohio State, Michigan and Florida.
"I told someone recently: 'If Notre Dame can just lose the rest of their games, they'll end up with the best class ever,' " CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said.
Before you Lemming bashers claim that your 140-pound nephew could make his top-100 list simply by committing to play for Notre Dame, consider this: Rivals.com also rates Notre Dame's 2008 class No. 1, as does Scout.com.
"Weis is a workaholic," Lemming said. "He ranks as one of the best recruiters in the country. He puts in the time."
He will have nothing but time in about three weeks. No pesky bowl game to worry about. :slappy:

Little known fact: Charlie Weis is actually a pretty svelte guy. He only appears to be fat because he has to buy clothes so big to hide Lemming, who alternates swinging from Charlie's nut sack with kissing his ass.

Seriously, no matter how bad the team is, how hard can it be to recruit for Notre Dame? "Hey kid, want to be on national TV every Saturday? More chance for the NFL scouts to see you"

Though that won't last long, soon it will be "Want to help perform a live action re-enactment of the three stooges but with eleven stooges instead? It will be on national tv every saturday."

The real question was how could the guy NOT recruit. He walked into the perfect situation
  • Despite the constant domer whining about academic standards, they have far more recruiting advantages than anyone else (their own tv network, a national network of devoted Catholic high schools, great tradition and facilities, constant media worship)
  • Any down on its heels traditional power gets a recruiting boost with a coaching change as top high school players put it back on their lists and are attracted to being part of the revival of a great program
  • The insane amount of unquestioning worship that Weis received in the press his first two years: the waving of the Super Bowl rings, "decided schematic advantage" being reported in every newspaper in the country, "pass right" and the weeklong media orgasm afterwards, the 60 Minutes lovefest.
Seriously, given all of that, how could he have failed to bring in great recruiting classes?

The real test will be the next three years. That will truly determine whether Weis can recruit. Now, the lovefest is over. Charlie's arrogant, "it's all about ME" personality is on full display--and being reported in the press. The lack of development shown by his players becomes more and more apparent with each passing month. His complete lack of sideline coaching skills (and common sense) becomes inreasingly apparent each and every game. Let's see how he does now that he's been around long enough for the real Charlie Weis to poke through from behind the wall of hype.
