Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Domers, on BP and elsewhere, have complained that Charlie Weis was an offensive genius who would revolutionize football once he had his own recruits on the field.

Well, Weis has just eight players that he did not recruit. He has had top ranked recruiting classes the last three years.

In the run-up to the meltdown of the Internet stock boom, they called announcement of new software that never arrived "vaporware".

If I were a recruit, I would be thinking very hard about my commitment to this great vaporware merchant.

Charlie Weis is not an offensive genius. He will not revolutionize college football. This year may very well be a losing season at Notre Dame and next year may not be any better.

Arrogance has its rewards. Weis is about to start experiencing what happens when you treat others like crap on the way up and the press stops blowing smoke up your rear.

Welcome to reality, Domers!

Well he did have 8 months to prepare...to kick a field goal... :slappy:

This is his third year at ND.

He recruited 3 QB's and chose the starter.

His starting QB threw for 4 yards, and the team had -8 yards rushing for the game.

Please, media members, STFU about the 'offensive genius' thing - calling him that is truly offensive to me.

He'd be getting a lot more grief right now if not for App. St. over TSUN.

Geez, I just looked at their schedule and I think the probability of a losing season is higher than a winning season. In fact, I think they could lose their first five games and certainly will get smacked in Happy Valley.

Man, the upcoming press conferences may be among the best comedy on TV this year. :slappy:
I was thinking along these lines too as I watched the last quarter. They could be a 3 or 4 game winner this year. From what I saw I think their OL gave up late in the game. I mean they REALLY looked bad.

Well, after yesterday, if Charlie Weis is an offensive genius, Jon Tenuta is a Defensive Deity.

Charlie will need to spend all week removing Jon's boot from his fat neck.

Well he did get 3 with 8 months to prepare, so Field Goal Jesus is alive and well.

Rumor out of South Bend yesterday, was that Touchdown Jesus actually lowered his arms, and covered his eyes, each time that ND's defense took the field. (Since I'm Catholic, is this sacriligeous?) :wink2:

Actually I think he's just now signifying the field goal (the one field goal, mind you) is good

The defense has never been good under Weis so that means he must compensate with his "offensive expertise." Obviously that will not happen this year, which makes you wonder, why the big contract extension? Almost beating USC 2 years ago does not count as winning the big one.

Notre Dame tried to come out and play smash-mouth football -- a stark departure from the aerial attack it used the past two seasons behind Quinn.
"We were going in there determined to try to run the ball, make sure we didn't have negative plays, to make sure we played close to the vest early and got used to the speed of the game with the number of people that were relatively inexperienced," Weis said.

they tried to run the ball all right... to the tune of -9 yards rushing. :slappy:

Weis is clearly just using his offensive genius to trick USC into thinking they suck so that Notre Dame can almost beat them again. If that happens I smell another contract extension, so really it's genius to have -9 yards rushing, really.

Well FWIW the Domer boards certainly have a group of people willing to question CW's competence. They are still the minority but the honeymoon is over and it seems more than a few Domers have come down off the kool aid bender and are starting to ask questions.

They all talk a good game about knowing CW will struggle this year but lets see how they do if they lose 5 or 6 of the first 8.
