I am thinking of the NDChief fests year after year defending this guy when we all said that this would be the outcome of his tenure at Notre Dame.
It was predictable and so was the personalization of criticism toward him.
After his performance at Notre Dame and the compromise of his former performance in "VideotapeGate", Charlie probably realizes that his job prospects are less than they once were.
Somebody will want this guy. He knows offense. But, do they want the entire package. The mile-wide ego. Listen to him this week. He plays out ND as if it was a huge success and he learned so much that coaches "will be able to use me as a sounding board."
PUHleeze. What you learned in South Bend was how to fail, Charlie, not how to succeed.
At a time when he could show humility and the ability to get along--remember, he said he wanted to leave things right and be a well-wisher of his replacement--he torches another coach's personal life.
He is right. Fans went over the top in their personal criticisms of his obesity and other personal and family issues that must have impacted on his family.
He is wrong. People went over the top because everywhere he went he showed disrespect to everyone else. Every day. As they say in Africa, the higher the baboon climbs up the tree, the more you see his arse.
So, yeah, the effect of all this on his family is unfortunate and I am very pleased that we discourage that kind of thing on BP. Still, if Charlie is looking for someone to blame, he should look no further than himself.
What I saw when I saw this picture, "Charlie, you're dead to me."
