CFP Title Game, Alabama vs tOSU, Jan 11, 8:15 ET on ESPN, Miami

Stop it. Harris, Smith and Jones can all beat you. Bamas Defense is opportunistic
but they're Offense is better than Clemson. The biggest difference is the QB run which is a welcome difference because that sucks to defend. It means Fields has to be healthy so the pressure is on their Defense. Make no mistake we'll need 40 or more to win this. Gonna be a tremendous game.
Feels like another 42-35 game. If fields is healthy AND the team keeps their fire then I feel good we’ll be in the right side of it. Happy there is no waddle to defend.

- Devonta Smith is pretty far ahead of Olave and Wilson. He has speed, footwork, hands, and surprisingly physical for not being a "bigger" reciever. He'll be the 1st WR off the board this year for a damn good reason. The kid looks THAT good.

- They have Najee Harris

- Uh, not really. Mac might not be the athlete, but he is every bit the passer and then some that Fields is. Actually, going off the total body of work this season, give Mac Jones the edge here strictly from the pocket.

- Transitive property in college football doesn't always work. tOSU is proof of that.

- Bama lost their starting center. A bad center can break an Oline, so this will prove huge for Haskell and co.

- Our DL won't be able to go "all out" on Bama because of their commitment to the running game and the creative way they develop screens.

It would be nothing short of a minor miracle if this isn't a 45-41 kind of game.
IMO no Smith is not that far ahead of Olave or Wilson. Is he better? Yes. Clearly? No.

Of course Mac is on the same level as a passer as JF and yes you're right maybe he's been better. I'm talking Justin's complete game with the ability to pick up some yards with his feet. So hopefully JF is healthy because that's the difference between Mac and Justin.

I acknowledged how good Alabama's running back is and he's a better running back than Etienne. My point was he's maybe not as dangerous recieving.

The transitive game approach doesnt always work sure but it absolutely can tell us some things. What it tells me is Alabama's defense is at best as good as Clemson and our defense is better than Notre Dame.

That's why I wouldn't be surprised if we win 49 to 31 in a bigger than expected win.

This is consistent for me though I truly felt going in I wanted Alabama over Clemson.

I don't think anyone else has realized that Fields may have played his last game here already. He sounded to be in extreme pain sitting down and getting up from interviews. I'm guessing those ribs are broken and I don't see someone with broken ribs getting cleared

Hopefully not. After the acute injury, broken ribs are generally just a pain control issue.

Although it depends on which ribs are broken and where (some lower rib fractures can injure the spleen, kidneys or liver), and he will likely use padding/protection regardless

There were rumors during the ND game waddle might be back for the championship but even if he is I wouldn't expect him to be in the form he was when he got hurt. But yeah this feels like a shootout it might be the first to 50 wins. If we can put together anything like our 2nd quarter we'll be looking good but I'm not sure 14 in the 2nd half would be enough. Though I believe we were likely cost 7 points in that game by the end of the game ref fuckery.

Didnt he break his ankle? He's not coming back.

Last update: per their rivals website.

Jaylen’s rehab is coming along,” Saban said on Monday. “He’s doing dry-land running. Still working to try to get back. But he is making progress. And we’re happy to see him be able to at least go out there and do some running and do some things, but he’s not back in practice yet.”

Sounds like he's a ways off.

On a serious note, I hope we do not have a let down after this emotional game. We spent a lot of energy on this one. And we are physically beat up.

It's the college football championship game and another shot at Alabama. Everything they've ever dreamed of football wise is right in front of them. They will be ready. We also run two deep across the board as far as health goes. With an ironic nod to Dabo we have also played less games by a decent margin. Fields is my only concern but he has shown he is a warrior out there.

Smith is the best WR this year that's no dispute. Olave is a very very polished WR in his own right; both will have great careers in the NFL.

Devontae's best attribute is not his speed. However, he is fast enough to blow by corners and safeties. Scouts project him to run somewhere in the low 4.5s or high 4.4s.

His footwork and route running are extremely good. He has a lot of wiggle in him. That's how he creates separation. I watched a lot of his film and there is hardly any weakness in his game.

Olave is a smoother route runner with decent speed as well. I see a lot of similarities between the two but Devontae is a little bit more "twitchy" than Olave.

To be honest it really doesn't matter if Alabama has more talented WRs. The WRs don't go up against each other.

The question is if Alabama's DBs can cover our receivers. And I have a feeling that the answer is no. If Justin Field's has time to survey the field I don't think anyone in this country can cover our receivers AND our TEs both. Someone will be open.

Lost in all the ESECPN juggernaut talk is that Alabama has not been all world on defense. You can point to games against Kentucky, Miss State, and Auburn but you also have to look at Ole Miss and FL. I'm not saying they won't play well. They might, but it's not the '85 Bears that the talking heads want us to believe it is. We saw what Day did to Venables. He exploited what had been a strength. I can't wait to see how he attacks the bammer defense.

Yup. Hard to know which Bama defense is the real one. The one who’s shut down some decent but not great offenses or the one that got lit up by every Top 10 offense it’s played.

No, it's very possible. We'll have no idea until game night. Just hope they make sure he's safe and he makes the right decision. I thought for sure he had broken ribs, but I was also sure he tore his ACL and MCL against TTUN last season.

Getting into the playoffs was gravy, beating Clemson like that in this type of year was an all time win. Everyone wants to beat Bama, but with Fields either unable to run or not play at all, it's going to be that much tougher. Once again just glad they have a shot.

Tried looking for articles on the interwebs to answer this, but no dice:

What, if any, are the deficiencies of the Alabama squad? Or at least, what areas might the Buckeyes be able to have an advantage?

This isn't to say that I don't find the Buckeyes to be a fantastic team, but instead, I've heard so much pants creaming about Bama that I honestly don't know much about them.
