CFP Title Game, Alabama vs tOSU, Jan 11, 8:15 ET on ESPN, Miami

Good game Bucks, your team is loaded and we were fortunate to play one of our better games tonight. A couple of nights ago, I posted that with a healthy Waddle and Dickerson, it may very well be the best offense in the history of college football. I still think you'll are good enough to beat us on a given day but knew you were going to have to outscore us to do it Next year is a rebuilding year for us we lose 90% of our offensive production, and I don't see it with as much youth that we'll have on that side of the ball along with a new OC. We'll play again, likely in two years in the playoffs. Until then, enjoy the ride.
Missed tommy badly. Missed battle more. Still may not have had an answer for Najee.

Amazing year, and very glad Devonta briefly fixed the heisman award. Maybe they'll consider pure defenders someday.

See ya in a few years when much better secondary recruiting has taken hold. On paper the gap behind these two programs is continuing to widen with their ludicrous 2021 classes.

Dont sell your team short... you'll be back next year with how you all recruit.

So impressed by your OL... just wow.

I think we benefit if we explicitly take ‘21 as a rebuild season.

New QB, new RB, significant shifts in O-Line.

Play youth in LB and in the secondary.

We should still expect a B1G title and beating Michigan.

But I do think we need to take the lumps and play youth to build for a run in ‘22.
We're rebuilding too, first time in a long time that O don't see us competing for an SEC crown. Too much youth on offense and a new OC. See you in two years in the playoffs.

Your class was pretty good too. We were both loading the boat. I am sure you'll will be back soon, what is Day 23-2?

Major props to the team for gutting out this fucked up season. They did everything they could to play and they'll always have my respect for it. Hate that it ended like this, especially because it's so hard to get to and win an NC, but it's nothing like last year. Just lost to the better team. No shame in that. Except for the usual shame we all hide deep in our hearts. 8D

On a personal note, this summer was really rough. I live alone, and the prospect of not having anything to look forward to while sinking into depression was rough. So for what it's worth, personal thanks to Day and the team for doing this, even though it obviously wasn't with me in mind. It really helps to have something like this that you love and can focus on. And thanks to everyone on here too. It's always great to laugh and complain during the season. Best board for it.

I'm not going to do a detailed recap of this game, because it's not really worth the effort. Here are my quick thoughts:

1. Offensive play calling was abysmal. Zero creativity, no attempts to test Bama deep, insistence on establishing a running game that wasn't going to happen without Trey Sermon, stupid quick tempo decisions (all three backfired), bubble screens with two tight ends wide (kind of gives the play away, don't you think?). The only chance that Ohio State had was to win in a shoot out, and Ryan Day brought a pop gun to the OK Corral. Compare to Bama's highly creative play calling, which they didn't even need because they were clearly the better team.

2. Defensive scheme was mind boggling - using four LBs against true Speed in Space? Tuf Borland covering DeVonta Smith? Baron Browning in coverage when he once again proved that he can be a force rushing the passer? No clue what they were trying to do, but I'm just some guy sitting at home watching on my TV.

3. Losing Tommy Togiai, Tyreke Smith, Trey Sermon, and eventually Wyatt Davis didn't help, but even with those four healthy for the entire game there was a noticeable talent gap in favor of Alabama. There's a lot of dead weight on this roster, and several highly-rated recruits who simply haven't made an impact despite being in the program for 3 or 4 years. I expect to see plenty of true freshmen (recruiting class of 2021) getting early playing time and some older guys hitting the transfer portal.

4. Overall, it's hard to bitch about a year in which Ohio State won their 4th consecutive Big Ten title, beat Clemson, (likely) finished #2 in the country, and lost to a team that was clearly the best in CFB. So I'm done bitching.

5. This season was messed up in so many ways. I'm glad that it's finally over. Maybe next year will be our year ... or the year after that ... or sometime down the road....

1 - the pre-snap motion, the jets/sweeps etc etc. All of it changing the run fits and zone replacements for coverage. With how un-complex collegiate defenses are vis a vis NFL defenses, Sarkisian showed how simple motions setup misdirection and force a defense to communicate and understand assignment changes on the fly. Football is a game of copycat, I would trust Ryan Day will be picking some of this film apart for his own use.

2 - 4-4 worried about Najee and the coaches didn't take into consideration the Bama offensive staffs willingness to attack tOSU horizontally. Best I can figure? Which is odd because Bama has been doing it all season.

3 - No rebuttal

4 - Critique isn't bitching

5 - Maybe

Hate losing the big one but beating Clemson trumps everything from a national perspective. Still believe the stench from not beating Dabo would be far greater than what happened tonight. Ohio State lost to a better team. Nobody in the country was beating that team this year. Just need to keep recruiting, keep developing, and keep an edge.
Coaching 101, never call out the other team, Dabo missed that lesson. I actually played Basketball against Dabo a couple of times about 30 years ago. He was actually a pretty nice guy, his comments surprised me as did his leaping ability on the court. He was a pretty good athlete.

LJB summed up what I had on my mind pretty damn well. I watched enough of Bama this year to realize that nobody was probably going to beat them this year, but had a little hope with the Clemson performance...but the talent gap was wide even before injuries/covid. Sermon, Togiai and Ty Smith out (and then Wyatt) is just an absolute killer even though I don't think the overall outcome of an L would have changed, but I think it would have been closer. We really needed 3 things to pull this one off or have a shot: (1) be at full health; (2) have flawless execution and play calling; and (3) have some plays and/or calls go our way. Zero out of those 3 things happened. I really don't think it is hyperbole to say that Bama team might have been one of the best in CFB history with the talent and coaching combined, so no shame at all with tonight though we obviously didn't look so great.

Just an absolutely bizarre year and one I hope we never have to see again, but I am extremely proud of this team and I could go on and on with all the specific examples from the players up to the parents, coaches and AD/President. Obviously it is disappointing not capping off this unprecedented season with a title, but it was just not destined to be. I'll have fond memories of this season and team, and the negatives are just things outside our control. I said it in the Clemson thread, but beating them just made the season worth it. Not many teams get to have the type of success we've had recently and it is important to enjoy it. We've got excellent coaches, have been recruiting lights out, and the talent is going to keep flowing. The future is plenty bright in Columbus. All will be well. That's all I really have for tonight.

Yet we still couldn't stop the run... I knew after 7 to 7 this was a long night.

They moved the ball methodically and easily. For us it took 1 foot taps and 1 handed grabs to even get in position to score.

It was just easy for them and harder for us. We could all see it early I would guess.

Man I am watching the B1G Show and they are showing the highlights for Bama and the defensive scheme is just ass. Watching them motion and then run to a wide open flat while our defense just stands still and watches with no pre-snap movement and giving the guy a running start trying to cover him with a fucking LB? Seriously? Then we all saw Tuf trying to cover Smith on a fucking seam route? This is totally fucking unacceptable when you re-watch it. That is just piss poor coaching and Sark fucking exposed the shit out of our defensive scheme. We were never competitive and that is unfair. Our talent isn't that bad on the D side of the ball to not even be competitive at all.
