Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

Well...there goes our theory about players not looking ahead to the NFL...

Clemson safety says it was 'obvious' some teammates had eyes on NFL in 2015

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/clemson-safety-says-it-was-obvious-some-teammates-had-eyes-on-nfl-in-2015-173458616.html

.....That meeting happened in January, after Clemson’s loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Clemson is back in the College Football Playoff and could play the Tide again with a win over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

“[Linebacker Ben Boulware] was a guy who was real pissed off about last year, how we didn’t finish how we should’ve. He talked to everybody this year and was like: ‘Look, we’re not talking to no agents. Y’all can save that for after the season. Right now we need to worry about Clemson football.’

“I feel like the guys just respect him so much that everybody took heed to that and followed along with it.”

FWIW....

I've been trying to warn people here it's in the public's best interest Ohio State pull out a win. I don't think anyone has really thought about the ramifications of a Clemson/Bama rematch. Imagine... fans from South Carolina & Alabama invading Florida. We have enough weirdos & mullets here as it is (Google "Florida Man"). Essentially, tropical storm precautions would need to be implemented. I'd fully anticipate-

-The overwhelming smell of body odor wafting from St. Petersburg to Tampa (heck, maybe as far as Orlando)
-Walmart stores packed wall to wall- no doubt leading to stampedes & shoplifting
-Jail overcrowding alone would be a nightmare

I don't even want to think about the impact this would have on women (and cats). I'm already devising a plan in the event of this devastating possibility. I've requested off work in anticipation for either scenario.

On the plus side, strip club business would be booming.

This is what I fear most...

I'm here in Phoenix scouting out the situation. Seeing lots of Buckeyes. No Tigers. I think we have them scared. Lol.

If you are coming here next week expect temps 55-75. Even at 55 it feels like heaven considering it was 19 when we left Cle.

Found out there is a town called Buckeye about 30 miles east of Phoenix. Hard to get there but lots of Ohio snow birds live out there.

Like they don't this year too......

Deshaun Watson among four Clemson juniors to declare for NFL draft

It's this year or never for four Clemson University juniors as the Tigers pursue the College Football Playoff national championship.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney announced this morning that quarterback Deshaun Watson, tailback Wayne Gallman and receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott will enter the NFL draft after this season.

DEPTH CHART: NO CHANGES TO OHIO STATE'S LINEUP BEFORE NATIONAL SEMIFINAL AGAINST CLEMSON IN THE FIESTA BOWL

78274_h.jpg,qitok=BD9zQ6S8.pagespeed.ce.7HfwC56Atj.jpg

Ohio State had 18 players start every game of the regular season. Three others recorded double-digit starts as the Buckeyes went 11-1 and made the College Football Playoff.

Without any major injuries reported or suspensions as opposed to last year upon completion of the regular season, Ohio State's two-deep ahead of its matchup with Clemson looks the same as it did when the Buckeyes took on Michigan nearly a month ago. The program released its latest lineup on Wednesday along with its game notes for the national semifinal.

I always like to say. . . I still get busy. . .

like aight. . .

Sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
Hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat; look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from getting busy
I'm a freak, I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom

And after all that, oh yeah, I kicked ass.

That's all I'm sayin.
I just want to point out that this incoherent drunken post got likes. You people have no fucking standards.

Tonight on the local Alabama radio show they discussed the OSU/clemson game with Gene Stallings.

Both hosts and Gene agreed that clemson was probably 3-7 points better than OSU. They claimed OSU would be better suited to win next year and the main reason for their success so far was Urban. They predicted a big game again for Deshaun Watson.

It was kind of interesting to hear Stallings talk about that game.

Interestingly, I give most sports dudes at least 7-10 points over anything Stallings says, and generally assume he is always wrong. This may work out perfectly.

THE SITUATIONAL: TARNISHED ANGELS

Three of the four teams that made the College Football Playoff have crushing losses waiting for them.

They worked all year to gain entry onto the sport's most exclusive stage, and yet for most of these players and coaches it's going to conclude with well we should still be so proud of our otherwise great season.

This is a cruelty perfected in March, when 68 teams are invited to dance before 67 of them are forced to say goodbye in succession with jerseys pulled over their heads to hide their tears. Football cuts straight to its Final Four. The play-in games took three months. No regionals, no Cinderellas and opening round home court-ish advantages.

Speaking of winning in unfamiliar territory, perhaps you remember the last time Clemson and Ohio State faced each other. The Tigers have this tradition of eternalizing every victory over a ranked team that occured away from home with a tombstone, which includes that Orange Bowl you've watched exactly once:

I listened to the below podcast from cleveland.com while getting ready for work this morning. I've heard some good analysis from these guys and meh throughout the season. For some reason they continually bulk up the airtime comparing this year's team to the 2014 team. However, in this cast, they interview OSU alum Dan Hope who covers Clemson for the SC Independent Mail.

It's worth a listen:
