CFP Game: #9 Tennessee at #8 tOSU, Sat 12/21 8 ET on ABC/ESPN

As we get closer to this one, I have the strange feeling that it’s going to be ok.

There is no logical reason for it but that’s the vibe and yes, I’m sober (for now).

I can’t go all @BUCKYLE and predict a 100 point win or anything but I’m pretty confident because typically when it looks this fucked on paper, it doesn’t go that way at all.

Day will be on my shit list the til he wins his 9th NC in a row but for the next 48 hours or so I think the doofus gets a win.

Opposite is happening to me haha

Couple days after TCUN game I had a feeling we’d win it all somehow. Now I think this upcoming game goes like the Missouri game last year where our defense does everything they can and our shuffled offensive line can’t block anyone.

At least this time we’ll have our best skill and our best QB but I just don’t feel good about this OL. They spent 3 weeks trying out guards when we should’ve been getting the starting five some practice together.

Yeah. It comes down to the OL. For whatever reason I feel like they can do enough.

(If I’m oddly confident it could very well portend a proper ape fucking so be leery)

Well normally when I feel we don’t have a chance that’s when we win so opposites colliding here haha

We can get it done though but we need the game plan to be on point. Going to need Chip to bring his literal A game.

Just no room for a below average plan. Need to take chances, need to throw the ball, and need to get our best players the ball.

I can’t shake the fact that we’ve underperformed nearly all year long….the offense especially.

Probably a 1 possession game…..if it’s an ass-kicking I think we’re on bad end of it. Dont think our offense is capable of pulling away…..weather and QB play I think hurts us more than TN……really hope I’m wrong.
a crazy thought sprang into my brain yesterday... chances are damn-near 100% that if you offer ryan day and his two coordinators to choose between winning the NC or beating TTUN, they'd choose the former. i don't think any of them give two shits about the game, insofar as it was a meaningless affair this year toward them maximizing their chances to win a national championship, keep their jobs, and make more bank.

i mean, think about it from a purely utilitarian/vegas odds point of view... if you lose to ttun, you get the some pretty huge advantages moving forward. you get almost a month of rest to heal up and regroup, your first round game is a home game, and you get three weeks to scheme (like actually scheme, not the lip service they paid for the ttun game) against a very mediocre opponent.

oregon, the B1G winner doesn't have it anywhere near as easy, in my view.

right... day always says that the team has three goals each year... and maybe that's just rhetoric. maybe he only gives a shit about nattys and just makes up the rest to mollify the dinosaurs in the fanbase.

crazy, right? i mean, these three are not stupid guys. stupid guys don't just stumble into those jobs with those kinds of salaries and payouts. you can say that they're weasels, or hounds, or sell-outs... but they're not stupid guys.

Predict a 100 point win over a top 10 team a dozen times and it follows you for life

I'm saying 35 point win.

Les Miles was a dumb sonofabitch. There is no other way to put it.

And there was really no need for it. Even early when we had a full OL we purposely played slow, purposely did not take many shots, and I think that cost us late in the season.

I don’t get what we tried to do on offense with the bleeding the play clock. I heard it was an attempt to shorten the game and reduce the number of plays the starters took on. If that’s the case WTF.

Do you want more or less plays with the skill we have on offense? More. Is the other team going tempo? Heck no other than Oregon. If reps are the concern then play your back ups that’s a genius idea. Run the offense at a normal speed, get the back ups in at half time, and continue to call normal play calling sequences.

There’s not one team in football with as much skill as our offensive unit. Yet we aren’t even a top 25 offense. This approach was on purpose to be slow, efficient, and within 15 yards. I just don’t get it with the kids we have.

It just kind of struck me that this is the first bad weather big time CFB game I can ever think of.

One of the by products of the old Bowl system I guess. We're not used to ever seeing a Bowl-like game played in sub zero weather with wind (or whatever the forecast is now).

That said, looking at it like an NFL playoff game, you can go to hell if you think I'm paying a premium to go fight frost bite (regardless of where I fall on the optimism/pessimism scale)
The '93 State Penn game at the Shoe with 4" of snow is one that comes to mind, but that one wasn't as cold as tomorrow's game.

Yeah, I mean like this, as in post season/Bowl kind of deal. It's just weird knowing that for 50+ years, games played in Dec or January were always in warm weather stadiums or domes.

I will like the northern schools being able to host more when they bring a true deep south team up. IU and TN aren't really al that southern. SMU is getting a face full of weather they've never seen before though I guess.

That '93 PSU game was fun to watch btw.

I am not optimistic, but we'll see and depending on what we see I could buy into the "we could run the table" narrative. I've said that we could lose to or beat anyone else in the CFP and that, of course, includes Rocky Knob. Kinda/sorta to riff off of shetuck, we're in a better spot than the pedsters. If you're in the B1G game, you definitely want win it. Otherwise, it's better not to be there. It would've been nice to beat tcun and still not have to play in Indy, but that's, obviously, not where we are.

I feel good about the defense even though our pass rush sucks, our corners sometimes act like it's their first time covering a receiver deep (you could put me out there and I'll give you a pass interference call; that's not really the point of the exercise), and I'm still not sold on the LBs. However, if we will contain and spy their QB and not let him gash us for yardage to move the chains, I think we're ok. I believe Knowles when he says the defense is built for this type of offense. Again, we'll see, but I don't see us giving up three-plus TDs to the hillbillies. So,

the offense just needs to cover it's side of things. Play to our strengths and away from our liabilities. In the cold, I think 17 points wins this one and it could be either team/
