CFP Game: #9 Tennessee at #8 tOSU, Sat 12/21/24, Rocky Top Massacre 42-17

This came out a few days ago so not sure if someone else posted but the All SEC teams came out. Tennessee had one defender on the first team (DL - Pearce Jr) and one on the 2nd team (McCoy - CB). None on the 3rd team.

I think some people are making too much of how good their defense is, especially their front 7. You play a schedule with Chattanooga, Kent State, UTEP, etc. and you only have 29 sacks on the year? Sorry, I'm not buying the level of fear some people are selling with them.

This may come as a surprise to many Buckeyes, but scUM didn't register a single sack against us a few weeks ago. Despite that goose egg, they routinely moved the LoS, evenly collapsed the pocket and forced Howard to work in tight spaces he clearly was not comfortable with. You're putting too much stock into pure sacks alone.

Their defense has played against the same amount of top 50 offenses the Bullets have 3-3 a piece.

You're right, they aren't world beaters. But they're, sound, physical and play fast. It's a good defense and with the Bucks offense currently in the state is has been the back half of the regular season schedule, that's more than enough for the Vols to sneak out a win in C'Bus.

I'm still eyeing the 1st half under.

It will depend which team shows up for Ohio State. A group of seniors who want to end their careers in Ohio Stadium with a great win and who deserve the support of Buckeye fans...or a team that feels its fan base no longer supports them. Ohio State fans need the former and their open support for these kids can help determine if that team comes onto the field.

Fans need to move on, even if for now, and give these kids our total support.

I can't recall a single time fans and alumni haven't shown up to support the players. The stadium is sold out week after week.

That said, these aren't "kids", they're young men. If you're a junior or senior, an of 'legal age' adult. Most importantly, and this is one that requires emphasis, these players are now a de-facto semi-pro, student-athlete. I'm not one to go overboard in being critical to the point of bitching, because that's quite common these days.

But the moment someone wants to profit off of their work, you have now opened yourself up to equal praise AND criticism. Because those same fans who you are chastising for their support are helping to insure those "kids" get paid from buying tickets, merch, NIL donations and monetary contributions that make the football department profitable as a whole.

If my nephew volunteers to mow my lawn but doesn't do it well, no way would you hear a word of critique from me. He's donating his time and labor out of love, and will receive nothing but my gratitude. If he's charging me for it? - Then I have expectations. With that means I expect quality work that will need to be re-done if not initially done correctly. Once the job is over, he'll receive both my appreciation AND money. I look at college coaches and athletes as the latter now that it has shifted to a business model above all else. You want my support, my ticket money and NIL donations? Earn it.

Well-stated.

While the basis of your argument is true, it's not very relevant to this Tennessee team imo. The Vols are more than one level away from Michigan's defense. There is no Mason Graham on that defense, and I trust Jackson and Fryar to isolate Pearce much better than our interior line did with Graham/Grant. No one knows Omari Thomas and Bryson Eason....maybe we will after the game, but they don't have the talent up the middle to expose our flaws without further adjustments like Michigan did. If they want to attack our weak spot, they're going to have to send a backer or bring a safety up, and as much as Howard has struggled at times I think that will burn them more times than not. If this was a road game, and we couldn't audible well, had to go with silent counts, etc. I would absolutely be more worried.

The Vols have a good defense, not a great defense, and certainly not one that should win their battles more than us.

Adding on....understand they've got two very good DBs. However, tOSU has more than two very good WRs. Ergo, the third (and fourth) WR should have more than an arms length separation from the DB....now if only the OL can give Howard a chance to let that happen.

One does not announce his presence with authority by putting 4 WR's on the field.

He puts in a couple of extra TEs and jams that bitch up between the tackles 20-30 times.

Pfft, 4 wide receivers sets. What do you think we are, a passing team?

Which is ironic to me because I think if we put 4 WRs on the field and spread teams out we would run the ball more effectively.

OK, so Woody is turning over in his grave. Got that. However, isn't the goal to score more touchdowns than the other team? Doing the same thing (running into middle of line), without success....OK forget the Xichigan game. Do what the D allows. Make the D react to you. Fool 'em. All valid offensive options. We'll see what the O braintrust comes up with. And how the adjustments are made. Run at speed, run away from strength. Duh. Believe all of us BP contributors should split Chip's salary for one game, no?

But would that winning strategy make you look "tough" and not "soft" ??

Shitshow! They'd better gather up the campus squirrels and put them somewhere safe for the week or these pieces of shit will be roasting them over open fires all over campus.

Holy. Shit. I was trying to plug my ears and make loud noises, wanting to give Carter and Bjork a pass, this is fucking insane. I'm just a fat fuck on my couch but Bros, it feels like the end of an era in a way. Hopefully I'm over dramatic but we are about to run out looking like Utah in all red, running big 12 schemes, after waiting YEARS to have the SEC come up north and "prove it" in December to potentially 40% Tennessee fans? What in the fuck is happening.

According to SeatGeek, 42% of tickets resold on the platform have gone to Tennessee residents, while only 23% have gone to Ohioans.

And on StubHub, 37% of tickets have gone to Tennessee residents while 34% have gone to Ohioans, The Dispatch previously reported.

I have a hard time believing 30% orange in the shoe. Even 15% would be more than anything I can ever remember, not even Texas in `05.

This is fucking dumb.
