Carp's on the list, near the bottom of the first post. Only Salley got overlooked on this list.

157. LB Bobby Carpenter, Sr., Ohio State
A.J. Hawk gets all the press, but there are some who believe Carpenter is the better pro prospect at 6-3 and 255 pounds with 4.5 speed. He stepped into the starting role on the strongside and got better and better as the year went on as a big hitter and great pass defender.

I was thinking the same thing. It suprised me to see Salley get shafted, he has excellent size......and hits like a ton of bricks. I think that Salley will do very well in the NFL, and have a great season this year.

They completely missed the boat by leaving Salley off the list, but it is still nice to see us with quite a few players in the top 200. I would like to see a list like this revisited at the end of the year and then see where everyone belongs. I guess it is just specualtion now.

Yes, he did split carries and his team did rush the ball pretty good - I still dont think hes top 5 material. Its good to see Big Ten players getting love, but hes not proven just yet to be able of racking up 1000 yards as the sole carrier IMO. Maroney was the better back of the two (putting up bigger numbers). Also, In bigger games I feel that they had the need to rush the ball with their passing struggling (completion-attempts):

Michigan: 8-22
Michigan St: 11-33
Iowa: 9-17 (only 73 yards)

I say that hes only as good as his team in reguards to awards. If you look at the candidates for last years Hiesman, they all played on teams doing very well (in terms of records). I just feel that Maroney is better suited around #10-20. Will he have a good season this year? Based off his last years performance, all sings point to yes. However the loss of Barber may have a bigger impact than most think. To ME, its like saying that Vince Young will be able to QB option just as well as last year with Benson now being a Dolphin. Mike Hart put up 1300 yards last year and some still arent too sold on him being a top 5 gamebreaker - and he was the sole back on the team.

IMO Bottom Line - good numbers, did his job as a RunningBack in the Big Ten, but I will wait to see how he performs without Barber before saying hes top 5 material (nationally).

13. QB Brad Smith, Sr., Missouri
Last year was supposed to be when Smith took another step up in the progression and become one of the college football's best quarterbacks. Instead, he wasn't quite the runner he was his first two years seeing his rushing total go from 1,406 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2003 to 553 yards and four scores last year. Worse yet, his his completion percentage went from 60.3% to a career worst 51.7% throwing 11 interceptions. He threw 13 in his first two seasons. When he's on, he's one of the nation's most exciting weapons. Instead of being bottled up last year and tried out as a pocket passer, he needs to be able to make plays on the move. Expect the coaching staff to get him running more.

By the way, is anyone else tired of hearing about how athletically talented Brad Smith is? I mean, I know he is a great athlete and all but you have to eventually produce if you want to be a top player in college football. Potential doesn't equal results.

GOD YES Im SICK and TIRED of hearing "Brad Smith is this, Brad Smith is that."

Until he can show me he's a winner, I'd gladly take Krenzel's WINNING ability over Smith's athletic ability.

But the media loves Brad Smith and the Tigers. It's disgusting.

I think Brad Smith has produced. Only one other player in the history of cfb has ever thrown for 2000 yards and rushed for 1000 in a season. He did it his freshman year, and was less than 50 passing yards from doing it his sophomore season. He lead Missouri to a bowl for the first time in forever, and led them to a win over Nebraska for the first time since he was born.

I don't understand why they don't have all the Buckeyes' starters in the top 50. Maybe even top 30.

Buckeye fans are always so quick to see themselves being slighted....Yeah, Maroney, with his back-to-back 1000 yard seasons when sharing the carries in Minnesota. What a joke to put a guy with a career 6.5 ypc in the top 5.

Ever think maybe Salley is #206 on the list? Would that be such a stretch?

Youre telling me that Morney is a better player than TG or Vince Young?
