Celtics-Cavs Second Round Series

The Celtics open up at 10 pt favorites...I look for that to go down to about 8 by the time the game starts...

Just looking at some clutch stats, the Celtics are really not that good of a 4th quarter team, while the Cavs are the best in the league...

As has been said Garnett, Pierce, and Allen have never really shown to be great performers under pressure...

The thing that kills us, is we are statiscally the worst team in the league at the SG position in net point, and the Celtics are 2nd behind only LA with Kobe, and while we are the best at the SF position Boston is second, and we are not great at PF, but Boston is with Garnett...

We are really going to need Wally, Boobie, Sasha, and Brown to step up and get some point from the backcourt if we want to have any chance to win this series...

Out of curiosity, where do your allegiences lie in this series OBJ?

I am going with Boston in this one.....sorry LeBron.....you had my support last year.....

Clutch stats are stats when teams are are within 5 of each other and 5 minutes or less in the fourth or OT...

I believe that stat is not a good indicator of just how clutch Boston is considering I believe they won 22 games by more than 20 points.......someone correct me if I am wrong here......

Position breakdowns are kinda mute I would think, cuz teams beat other teams. Positions in the NBA now are so fluid.

But I also believe Z has to keep doing what he is doing. He has to work on Boston's bigs to get them in foul trouble and or force Boston to put Garnett on Z. I just hope Mike Brown doesn't abondon him like he normally does and lets him just fend for his points by tap ins.

Yeah but these are the playoffs and I think these games are going to be closer than those, and they are going to need clutch play...

Much like the game when Joe Johnson took over the 4th quarter, the Celtics couldn't match his scoring on their end...

None of Boston's stars have been clutch in the playoffs... ever. Unfortunately for the Cavs, I doubt that's going to matter because Boston will continue to win blow outs at home.

Come Finals time against the Lakers, however, and I think you'll find that lack of clutch play to potentially be the Celtics' Achilles' heel.

ROUGHING IT
Think the Cavaliers' series vs. the Wizards was physical? Rugged Celtics take aggressive defense to whole new level

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
This time, LeBron James might actually have something to cry about.
After weathering the hard fouls and rough play delivered in the first round by the Washington Wizards, who labeled him a crybaby for complaining about the abuse, James is staring at a Boston Celtics team that dominates at home and on defense -- a double whammy that can make even James' eyes water.
Plus, the Celtics can get chippy with the best of them, if their skirmishes with the Atlanta Hawks during the seven-game opening round are any indication. Kevin Garnett has a mean streak that Cleveland would be wise not to activate.

Bob Hunter commentary: Ancient or recent, history won't give either team edge

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 3:17 AM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
History always seems like a tough matchup. If the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics were about to step into H.G. Wells' time machine, we would know exactly what to do: Drain the bank accounts, max out the credit cards, pawn the family jewels and bet it all on the Celtics. In a world of time warps, the Celtics are golden. It's hard to see how the Montreal Canadiens can lose. The Green Bay Packers' failure to win the last Super Bowl was a fluke. If you are caught in the maelstrom of history, then betting on the Celtics seems like an easy way to make some fast cash, kind of like betting on the New York Yankees last year when they played the Cleveland Indians in an American League divisional series.

Personally I think their lack of success by the big 3 in the playoffs has been overblown........this is the first season the big 3 have been together and so far....up to this point.....it has been a success......their lack of success can be contributed to the players surrounding them on their old teams......putting the three together on one squad and possibly they will find that success.....

Boston has a lot of games to win before they even get to the finals.....same for L.A.

Play physical inside, the Cavs have the personnel to do just that.

Lebron will draw double teams; so basically if he can have the assists to wally and boobie like we did in game 6 (combined with the shooting) then Boston is more than beatable.

Lebron was surrounded by little more than either of those 3 last year, made it to the Finals, and yet, if Skip "fucking" Bayless is to be believed, he isn't clutch.

But I get your point. My point was simply that neither of the three have shown that they can carry a team on their own in clutch time. It'll be interesting to see who can step up for them in a close game - of which I do not expect tonite's game to be.

I think the Cs come out aggressive, the officials will give them some leeway with Lebron, and this Game 1 will quickly turn one-sided in Boston's favor.
