Wrong glass, Sir.
Just read that schools that were "invited" have to pay $60K to take part. No television except a pay per view internet feed. WTF?

I thought going to the NIT sucked, but at least we're not paying for the privilege.

Fox College Sports is handling the TV. NIT requires a fee too. If you're turning a profit on your basketball program the fee becomes equivalent to expensive "buy" game.

Why would anyone want to play in that thing?

We have the NCAA, and the NIT. That's 97 teams and I think that's plenty.

New Mexico State turned them down because of the cost. For a young team or a mid-major this is better than staying home.

Wright State turned down a home game due to the cost ...hoping to get a road game. Instead they got nothing.

To get the $60,000 you would only need to sell 4,000 tickets at $15 a pop. You would think that most teams could do this. For a team like Wright State who rarely plays in the post season, you would think that it would be an exciting thing to be a part of. Not so much for "High Majors" or "BCS" schools like Virginia, cincy, Washington.

OU got a home game. They will probably be paying out of their pocket for this game.

Here are the attendance numbers for the 2008 CBI tournament. Each team needed to guarantee $60,000 + an additional 60% of gate receipts after the $60,000 guarantee is met. Average ticket price was around $15.

Tues. March 18:
4,022 Richmond @ Virginia
2,036 Rider @ ODU
1,169 Brown @ Ohio
TBA Houston @ Nevada

Note: Average attendance for the 2007-08 season: Virginia (12,809), Ohio (5,440)

College Basketball Invitational postseason tournament?

Can someone explain this tournament to me and how one gets selected?

Bfool and I were at the OSU game last night and saw some scores posted that weren't teams in the NIT.

I thought maybe it was women's NIT scores but after further investigation, I've found out that there is a tournament called the College Basketball Invitational.

Here's the bracket.

I mean UC is in it and they have a 13-18 record!

There is some talk about it in the Memo to Mid Majors thread by ORD_Buckeye. I don't completely understand it but the schools have to pay $60,000 to give into the tournament but that's all I know and I learned that from the thread.

The idea was to get solid tems that were left out of the NIT, however, a lot of these teams don't have the attendance or cash on hand to pay the fees. Wright State is a solid team but couldn't afford the buy in. I think they just went downt the list of teams until they found people willing to pony up. Hence, several teams with losing records in the tourney.

Ohio U. didn't have the money but their athletic director said they will just play a couple "bye" games next year (road games with no home return) to pay for it. They are going to try to schedule two road games against "BCS" schools to make up the funds.
