2013 running backs - First look

We are looking at the same names coming up for the Buckeyes in the Class of 2012 now. We are in that in-between period when players who aimed to commit early have done so...and it's too early for those that want to wait. We already have a good idea of who the Buckeyes are focused on. We may see a player or two added later but that will happen after a great senior year.

There is a great deal of talk about the Class of 2013. I thought I would get out a few more names and want to do it by position. I just happened to notice a couple of running backs so I decided to look at them first.

Who is No. 1? It is pretty obvious: Dymonte Thomas. He is also the No. 1 safety in the class. I have said this before and I will say it again, the most puzzling lack of a Buckeyes offer out there is Thomas. Look at this film and tell me what I am missing that has kept Thomas from an early offer. His offer list is better than most seniors-to-be and he has not even stepped on the field as a junior. His grades are outstanding. He is known to be a high-character kid. His measurables are legit. The argument that the Buckeyes are so deep at running back carries no weight. Thomas may be a better safety than he is a running back. I think he is, and he could not care less which position he plays. Baffling non-offer.

More 2013 Players

I want to stay on the subject of 2013 players. Introduce you to a few more of the players we will be talking about a lot this time next year.

Jacob Matuska, Ath, 6-5, 240, Hartley. ( http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-profile.html?task=userProfile&user=7765&name=moose82 )
Elite football player. Most of the talk is about him as a tight end but when I see a 6-5 240 lb kid so athletic that the coach plays him in space on defense, he is a defensive end for me. Buckeye fans should not get excited about him. The early buzz is he is Notre Dames for the taking.

Jarrod Clements 6-3, 235, Dayton Dubar ( http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.p...task=userProfile&user=7167&name=jclements1203 )
Jarrod Clements belongs in the conversation about who is best defensive end in the class of 2013. Yes, I said that. He is as good a football player as Taco Charlton. He is as good a football player as Jake Butt. He is not the better prospect. That is why you are not hearing that much about him. Clements is a test case for why measurables and the consideration for growth matter so much in recruiting. Charlton and Butt are great players but so is Clements but Clements is not 6-6. He is likely to end up sliding down to tackle. Clements already has an offer from Toledo.

Any reason that BP is continuing the thread name with CBF40's title when he is no longer posting/leading the thread? Tradition? Poor diversity in vocabulary? Spite? Shut up Diego?

Shut up Diego, I think it's still his stuff from another site, I could be wrong:)

I stand with CBF40.

We've always used these threads for people's guesses as what a class is going to look like...including Duane Long's musings on class finishes.

I think the 24/7 early 5-stars link has been posted in at least three different threads.

I'll tell you what, this class is going to be superb, in my opinion. Once the NCAA comes to it's final decision, and the Bucks have another successful season despite all of the doubters, recruiting will be stronger than ever. It can't hurt that we currently lead for some excellent players already.

Better keep your eye on tailback LeShun Daniels Jr. (6'0, 210 pounds) out of Warren G. Harding. 198 yards & 1 TD on 23 carries in opener against Austintown Fitch. His father played for Ohio State in the early-mid 90's.

I like those stats against a great team and the Genes. Didn't his father have some NFL Pro time too.

Yes. He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars & Minnestoa Vikings. His best friend was the late Korey Stringer, who he graduated with from Warren G. Harding High School in 1992. Of course, they both played football at Ohio State.

Without getting too far off topic, here are HS highlights of the elder Daniels.

Korey was huge, but he was the nicest guy that you could ever meet. When he died (right before my senior year in HS), the entire city of Warren was in total shock. Not only was he emerging as one of the elite offensive linemen in the NFL, but once again, he was simply a great person.

Love the loyalty. I still lurk, just don't have time to post as much. As buckeye86 posted, those are our initial thoughts on 2013.

Free BN - Going Long: 2013 Comes Into Focus

There is a good deal of information coming out about the Class of 2013. I do not think it is premature to look forward to that class. I think it very wise of the staff to get started on it in fact. We are seeing the same names come up with the Class of 2012. There might be a player who comes out of the blue, but for the most part we have a good idea of who is going to fill out the class. It appears 2013 is another good one in Ohio but I like what I am seeing from some out-of-state players who are showing a great deal of interest in Ohio State.

I started out thinking I was going to pick just 10 players that I would like to see the staff use every opportunity allowed by the NCAA to stay in contact with. I will start with the Ohio players.

Jalin Marshall - ATH, 6-foot, 190 pounds, Middletown: Coming off a camp season where his quarterback stock dropped but athlete stock went through the roof, Marshall remains the top player in the class. He is a game-changing athlete. I will mention once again he reminds me of DeSean Jackson, the Philadelphia Eagles receiver. I understand he prefers quarterback but I do not think he is going to let that influence his decision too much. I like the Buckeyes here.
