The spring evaluation period usually sees another round of offers, once college coaches are able to see prospects in person. We are continuing our breakdown of Ohio State's 2012 recruiting board with a look at the defensive tackle position. Like the defensive end spot, there are a number of great prospects in Ohio this year, and the Buckeyes are also pursuing a few elite national players. Between the defensive end and tackle positions, Ohio State will sign 5-7 recruits. There's no urgent need at the position, but there is just too much elite talent to pass up.

All players have video hyperlinked to their names. The comparison section is not meant as a 1:1 ratio. By nature, comparisons are bound to fail, but they do have some value for style purposes. When we say LaTroy Lewis is reminiscent of Thaddeus Gibson, we do not mean he will have the career of Gibson, or that he is even as good of a prospect as Gibson was. We simply use the comparison section to build style connections between past and perhaps future Buckeyes.

Is it just me, or are the number of spring game visits down? There doesn't seem to be a lot of big name non committed players making the trip at this point.

Also, Wade or someone else who may know, are the coaches spending enough time on recruiting this weekend to possibly hand out some offers... to Dodson, for instance.

Dodson getting an offer would depend on when he gets a good enough test score for an offer to be made.

Thank you, that's not what I asked.

Dodson took the ACT test over two months ago. Assuming he does have the scores, this weekend seems like a good time to offer.

But Dodson was just an example, my question was whether the coaches have the time to sit down and offer players this weekend and are planning on it.

A look at Ohio State's top (non long-shot) targets in 2012.

Before summer camp evaluations and a new round of offers, here is a look at Ohio State's early offers that they still have an above average shot at landing.

19. Shane Dillon (QB)

Highlights: Video #1, Video #2
Offers: Ohio State, Florida State, Arizona, Colorado, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt

Shane Dillon is the quarterback prospect for the Buckeyes in 2012. I would place him much higher on this list, but quarterback is not a position of need at the moment (particularly given Cardale Jones taking a gray shirt from the 2011 class).

However, if Braxton Miller jumps to the top of the depth chart in the fall, transfers at QB would be a very real possibility, making landing one in 2012 more important. Dillon consistently lists Ohio State amongst his top teams, and he has significant connections with Ohio State through QB coach George Whitfield.

18. Taylor McNamara (TE)

Offers: Ohio State, Florida State, Miami (FL), USC, Stanford, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Maryland, San Diego State, Vanderbilt, Washington

Taylor McNamara is one of the top TE prospects in the country who deserves to be much higher on this list. Once again, however, TE is not a position of need right now for the Buckeyes after taking two in 2011.

McNamara grew up an Ohio State fan and considered committing on the spot during a visit to Columbus earlier in the year, but the staff asked him to hold off and look around some more (he has since received offers from practically every major program in the country- mission accomplished). Like Shane Dillon, McNamara has a major connection to Columbus in George Whitfield Jr. and he consistently lists Ohio State amongst his favorites.

So without further ado, here are some of the best players in the country that might wear scarlet and gray in the future.

(Note: I've tried to only list players that have expressed interest in visiting Ohio State, have visited Ohio State, or have listed the Buckeyes as one of their favorites at some point.)

10. Noor Davis (LB)

Offers: Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami (FL), Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Stanford, Tennessee, Nebraska, UCLA, Boston College, Louisville, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Carolina, South Florida, Syracuse, UCF, Virginia, West Virginia

Noor Davis is one of the top LB prospects in the country (he is also an oustanding student and holds a 4.3 GPA as his highlight video points out). His size and athletic ability remind me of Etienne Sabino in high school.

Davis' dad played at Purdue and he has visited many northern schools, including Ohio State. He plans on naming a top five over the summer and has already decided that Notre Dame and Florida will be among his top schools. While he has clearly shown interest in the Buckeyes, Davis fits the bill of a long shot to the T.

9. Travis Blanks (DB)

Offers: Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Georgia, USC, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, South Carolina, South Florida, Southern Miss, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia

Travis Blanks is one of the top players in the country, and certainly one of the best defensive backs. He sometimes lists Ohio State amongst his top schools, and as Lloyd Christmas once said, "so you're tellin' me there's a chance?!" Unfortunately, it will be next to impossible to pull him out of the south.

I hate to be a downer, but Blanks changes his list regularly with the only constant being plenty of southern schools. On top of that, he considers his choice a "business decision" which isn't exactly one of Jim Tressel's main pitches to a player.

Don't hold your breath on this one, but you can keep playing the dumb and dumber video if you'd like.
