CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

Understand about the fence around Ohio and all, but I'll probably be anal and go back and look up the 'out of state' offers versus the 'in state offers', to see whether Tress & Co wants to put up a concrete fence or a cyclone fence. Understanding the 'best player' routine, with limited resources (available schollies), will the coaches concentrate on the 'best of Ahia' or go national, and potentially spurning some very good Ahia boys? Don't know, can make a pretty convincing argument both ways too.

In retrospect it'll be fun to track, but wonder if any 'insider elite' (such as BB, Steve19, or others) has the 'global strategy'. Tress & Co have gone national (well mostly Fla), and do not want to harm that pipeline, but also want to hang onto the reputation of putting Ahia boys up there early, and establishing that fence. Consequently the strategy of getting a Glenville guy to commit EARLY, rather than late, would probably ensure their receiving a limited scholarship, and avoid having some very good athletes left thinking they're 'second best' rather than a primary target (if XYZ doesn't verbal, then you're in-type of thing).....

Hopefully the offer site gets re=established so it'll make the calcs easier. I believe we'll do well, but hope this year positions OSU for future great classes, instead of shutting down one or more pipelines that have been painstakingly nurtured over the years......gonna be a tough call.

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: Being a 'glass half empty' type of guy, this will be a marvelous year for Notre Dome and the Wolverweenies to open/expand their inroads into Ohio. Both new coaches have Ohio ties, and have recruited this fertile state before. Now they've got a much better product to sell.

Interesting comments about McGowan. Unfortunatly I didn't see one pass play in his highlights. Dude is a mauler no doubt and I don't doubt he could be a tackle, I would like to see more film. I hope tOSU's staff see's what Duane is seeing because I want McGowan in S&G.

Duane makes a living complaining about the way Tressel and company recruit offensive lineman, he is probably just setting up a future gripe by building McGowan up so much, particularly with his comments about a future at tackle..

I have liked McGowan ever since I saw his film...I wouldn't doubt that he could play RT. He does kind of remind me of Shane Olivea...but I like him at guard.

This Ohio 2012 class, as we all know already, is off the charts. The amount of prospects who already hold Big-4 (or other national program) offers is unreal.

Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State and plenty of non-Big Ten programs are going to strike gold off of the Ohio talent-base.

Is it really too much to ask that Ohio parents/families try to plan their athletes' birth for 17- to 18- years into the future when tOSU will have favorable depth charts? I mean, the Buckeyes ARE trying to build a fence around Ohio, its just hard when you have 30-40 kids in-state kids who merit an offer in any other year.

Get on it Ohio parents. Coordinate your cycles together. For the Buckeyes and the children.

2012 defensive line update

Written by Duane Long | 17 February 2011

I am 51 years old. I have a full head of hair and you need to look hard to find any gray.

If that changes it is going to the fault of this 2012 defensive line class. Just when I thought I had it all figured out a piece of film pops up that changes things. Once was bad enough. Twice? Well, I am mumbling to myself and my dogs are looking at me strange.

First, a question from TJMMBertke last week about Centerville defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo prompted me to go back and review his film. After watching the film I decided to start over. Re-watch every defensive lineman on my list. Just this latest film. Throw the previous rankings out. Forget about previous film. This was just after seeing Brush's Pharaoh Brown a player that had me looking for his position in my rankings anyway. I was zeroing in on the class again. That is when the other shoe dropped. I just watched a new film of Chris Worley.
My problem with Worley, my only problem with Worley, was he disappeared for stretches. I saw an early season game. He had a couple of sacks but was not involved much in between. His newest highlight reel shows quite a few more plays.
