CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

I like most of RB07's list except I went back down to 20 which still may be too much. My *'d players are the ones I most strongly think don't end up at OSU. I took out QB and TE and added a LB. I switched one OT for another.

RB: Brionte Dunn
RB: Warren Ball
RB: Rushel Shell*
WR: Dwayne Stanford
WR/ATH: Ricardo Louis
OL: Jacoby Boren
OL: Kyle Kalis
OL: Evan Goodman*
OL: Jordan Diamond
OL: Taylor Decker
DE: Adolphus Washington
DE: Greg McMullen
DE: LaTroy Lewis
DE: SeVon Pittman
DT: Tommy Schutt
LB: Josh Perry
LB: Deaysean Rippy
LB/DB: Bam Bradley
DB: Deon Bush
DB/ATH: Cyrus Jones

I like that list. However, I would replace Shell for Benny McGowan and Rippy for Kaleb Ringer...

After I've had a chance to watch some film and look at offers, my ideal-semi realistic class (21 may be high, but just an estimate):

QB: Shane Dillon
RB: Brionte Dunn
RB: Warren Ball
RB: Rushel Shell
WR: Dwayne Stanford
WR/ATH: Ricardo Louis
TE: Taylor McNamara
OL: Jacoby Boren
OL: Kyle Kalis
OL: Jonah Pirsig
OL: Jordan Diamond
OL: Taylor Decker
DE: Adolphus Washington
DE: Greg McMullen
DE: LaTroy Lewis
DE: SeVon Pittman
DT: Tommy Schutt
LB: Josh Perry
LB/DB: Bam Bradley
DB: Deon Bush
DB/ATH: Cyrus Jones

- I would consider swapping out Pittman for a LB possibly, if that LB is James Ross or especially Derek David. I like Decker at tackle but you take any of Webb, Alexander or Humphries if they come your way, I'm just saying they do not at this point. I also like Corey Smith at WR, I'm not sure where we really stand with Louis.

My problem is that Decker doesn't have an offer and Dodson is apparently on the verge of getting one......

I think they still pursue Dillon...there is no guarantee that Jones ever ends up at OSU, although I know he will try his hardest to fufill that dream.

This position is where it gets a little dicey for the staff. Jones' qualification may take some time, so it leaves you up in the air. Now, what happens if (and I really hope this doesn't happen because I like the potential in each one of them), one of the younger QB's decides to move on. Granted you get another scholarship, but you almost have to take another QB. A lot of this depends on timing. If it's after spring, you've still got time to get in on a top flight guy. If it's after the season, it'll be a lot tougher to find that elite kind of guy as QB's generally commit earlier than later. Guess my point is that we will see the staff continue to pursue another QB for 2012, but this means they'll have to slow-play someone at another position. Here's hoping that Jones qualifies early, playing time is abundant for everyone, and the Bucks roll on. I can hope, can't I ?

The board's thinking so far doesn't seem too bullish on ending up with Bogard. You guys not that high on him, or is it Kiffin fatigue?

Suppose that I just overlooked him. He and Cyrus could be interchangeable on my list at this point.

If I wanted to add one more (and equal rb's 21) I'd go with Odenigbo as I feel one of the DE's will end up as a Tressel-type DT.

Agreed on IO from the Elks. He has the size and athletism to be a tremendous LEO a few years down the line. I would hope our tremendous lb haul for '11 would allow the staff to consider a guy like IO, maybe a bit of a project, but his ceiling is sky high. He wouldn't be needed right away.

I have been thinking back about some of the Ohio names at safety that have come up over the last several months, both at BP and over at D. Longs site. Bam Bradley, Allan Gant, Dyshawn Hall from Glen Oak, Marcus Foster, and Jarred Wilson from Buchtel are all familiar names here on the recruiting board. Every one of these guys has some "expert" in their corner predicting big time success. None at this time hold a Buckeye offer. At the same time we have several offers out to FLA. safeties. It will be interesting to see over the next few months if the staff is moving cautiously with the ohio group, while trying to get a toe-hold with one of the Fla. prospects. Or if the staff really don't have any of these guys that high on their board, and the Ohio guys have been overrated to this point by the experts(not talking about anyone here at BP).

Oversight on my part, agreed...I would take Rippy and consider him more likely at this point.

Conjecture at this point...Dodson may have a better shot and as much as I like him, I personally like Decker better. I think Decker is a guy that could be a future first-rounder...potential is just off the charts.

Ohio Nike combine recap

MASSILLON, Ohio -- The 2011 Nike SPARQ Combine tour headed to the Midwest and played host to some of the top talent in the region. Although there weren't any Doran Grant-type performances this year, several of the top players in the state showed why they're already being recruited at the high FBS level.
A year ago, Grant, already recognized as one of the nation's top corner prospects, lit up the event with a 124.50 SPARQ Rating headlined by his 41-inch vertical jump. The numbers were a bit down this year and a sleeper prospect from Michigan finished with the top rating of the day.
Mark Cargle (Pontiac, Mich./Ace Alternative), a 5-foot-9, 200-pound running back, finished with the day's top SPARQ Rating at 111.33. Not much was known about Cargle prior to the combine and for good reason. He played in just two games a year ago before separating his shoulder and sitting out the remainder of the season. Cargle did rush for 400 yards in those first two games and his strong showing in Massillon, Ohio, will hopefully give him some momentum heading into the spring evaluation period.
As for headline talent, several top in-state prospects made it out, including ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects WR Dwayne Stanford II (Cincinnati/Taft), RB William Mahone (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Finch) and WR Corey Smith (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel).
Stanford has offers from schools all over the country, including Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee. He isn't a burner, but the 6-3, 297-pounder has the size colleges covet and had a big junior season with 44 catches for 865 yards and nine touchdowns. He had a 4.39 shuttle and 32-inch vertical.
Mahone played both running back and linebacker a year ago and is getting looks on both sides of the ball. The 5-10, 206-pounder showed good strength with a 36-foot power ball toss and jumped 34 inches in the vertical.
Smith boasts early offers from North Carolina, Michigan State and Akron and had an all-state junior season, totaling 52 catches for 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns. He impressed with a 4.32 shuttle and a jump of almost 36 inches in the vertical.

Top rising senior

Bri'onte Dunn, RB (Canton, Ohio/Glenoak)
After he scored a 114.72 SPARQ Rating a year ago, there was some thought that the Ohio State commit could at least approach the SPARQ record set a year ago by Ryan Henderson (134.79). Dunn admittedly hasn't been training much, but still showed why he's a ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect with a solid all-around performance and the third-best SPARQ Rating in the combine at 109.47.
cont...
lots of familiar names on the lists...also no one broke below a 4.5 40 time

Is the track at Massillon a slow track? I know that when 40's are laser-timed that they come out a bit slower, but you'd imagine that at least one kid out of all of them would have been in the 4.4's.

99.99% of people in the world don't legitimately run faster than a 4.5 40 so I don't find it surprising at all.
