Cbf40's look at '11 recruiting

Just got done reading an article on mgoblog where they expressed hope that they might have a shot at Braxton Miller, Steve Miller, Doran Grant, AJ Jordan, and Trey DePriest. The article also points out that they need to start landing top Ohio talent to become an elite program again.

#1 it's nice of them to admit their inferiority and reliance on Ohio to be relevant

#2 there is a strong, strong possibly that they lose the recruiting battle for every single one of the prospects I mentioned above from Ohio (which was about 1/3rd of the total amount they listed) to Ohio State

awesome

This Tim assclown professing that scUM has even a remote shot at the Millers is hilarious. The fruit juice they drink up there is something else. Lllllloyd was having issues in his last few years getting good players form Ohio aside from a few select names. DickRod will stuggle mightily convincing the elite Ohio football player to go to scUM.

If I was UM I wouldn't get my hopes up about any of those guys you mentioned...

Now Greg Brown (who I'm guessing they mentioned) on the other hand...

Fremont needs to secede from Ohio, maybe we could trade that city to scUMland for somewhere up there, like Dowagiac, so i don't have to admit my grandma was born in Michigan!

Here is an indepth look at the 2011 class. Things are looking very good for this class at the early stage. Big time talent in-state, especially at the DL position, we have a QB in state. I say we go about 15 deep in 4 and 5*'s top 300 national type players. And with guys like Vaughters, Cash, Koyack, etc looking good already from OOS, look for a big time class.

QB - We have had a good run over the last 3 years...It isn't crazy to think it will be four years after this class. Braxton Miller has an offer and will continue to the streak. Not sure the staff will spend much time on any other QB's in this class.

Braxton Miller - Just a matter of time. He is a dual threat QB, has a big time arm, great wheels.

- Golson and Bridgewater are two guys that could get some talk, maybe Bridgewater more if he wouldn't mind playing WR. Coyne and Stoudt are two in-state names that could come up if they look to take 2.

RB's - I still see this class finishing with 2. Smith and Howard (If grades) I see us only looking to take 1 next year, unless of course the right guys come along. Walton is the one guy that stands out in state. Not much out of state, at the moment that we have targeted.

Robert Walton - Really liked his sophomore film, looks to have good vision, strong running style, and solid 4.5 speed. And from Glenville, so he will for sure get a long look.

Allan Wosanga - From WV, rumored to be a big buckeye fan, has put up big numbers, not playing against stiff competition, is one to watch.

WR's - There are a lot of options at WR, in-state and OOS. It will be intersting to see what direction they go in terms of offering. I say 2 maybe 3.

Karlos Williams - Has a verbal offer. Looks like a big time FSU lean, but you never know with their sanctions and problems, and he trains with Santanio and said location will not factor into his decision, but at this point you have to think FSU.

Rashad Greene - He is from STA out of Florida. Is one to watch for sure. He really showed well in the game against UA.

AJ Jordan - I watched his game the first week of the season. I really like what I see from Jordan. He has good size, looks good catching the ball and getting open. I wouldn't mind an early offer, but there are quiet a few options at WR next year.

Ed Killingsworth - He has great size. One to keep an eye on for sure.

Josh McClain - Big receiver from Northmont. One to keep an eye on.

Shane Wynn - Kid is explosive with the ball in his hands. He is a little on the smallish side, but hopefully he grows. I think at some point he receives and offer.

Jacobby Brissett - Rumored to have a verbal offer form Florida. Same school as Nick O'Leary.

Devin Smith and Tyler Williams are other names to watch in-state.

TE's - I see us passing this year, and taking 2 next year. Pretty good talent pool to pull from next year.

Ben Koyack - Obviously the staff's top target. Could be the top TE in the country next year and we are very high on the list. Will be a tOSU/PSU battle.

Ray Hamilton - Has offers from WVU and Pitt already. He is one to keep an eye on and will be in the running if the staff looks to take 2 TE's.

Darien Bryant - Is another in-state TE to keep an eye on if the staff looks to take 2 TE's.

Nick O'Leary - Jack's grandson, will be interesting to see how this recruitment play out if we go after him. He has talent thats for sure.

OL - Never hurts to try and pull in 3 or 4. No offers yet, but there are some names out there. The only offer out is Tyler Moore and he looks like he is all Nebraska.

Audrey Walker - Big kid from Glenville, solid feet, one to keep an eye on for sure. Was impressive at a couple camps and combines last spring.

Chase Hounsell - Another name popping up from Ohio, at this point he will have to grow into the position as he is listed in the 240 range.

Chris Boles - His name was thrown out early as a top 5 in Ohio. Since then it has been quiet. Anyone know anything?

Cyrus kouandjio - Not sure where we stand. But he will be a big time prospect. Has an uncle in Columbus, but at this point it looks like his brother will not be coming here.

Tony Springmann - Works out with Rod Smith, but reportedly has ND in the lead. Top 100 guy on Scout. One to keep an eye on.

Brian Robek - A guy we have a thread on from Illinois

Christain Westerman - Big time prospect from AZ. We have inquired about him.

Landon Turner - Another national guy from VA. Early interst in us, should be here for the USC game.

DE's - We shouldn't have to go outside the state here. We already have Hayes in the fold and Steve Miller is a 5 star candidate. Don't see the need for more than 2, especially with the two being Hayes and Miller.

Kenny Hayes - Got an offer and accepted on the spot. Will be a top 5 player in the state. Really liked what he brough on film, long and athletic DE's, quick off the ball, and getting to the QB. Looks to be a SDE, as he is already at 235.

Steve Miller - 5 Star candidate, great looking DE, has everyone raving about him. Already has an offer, and just like the other Miller just a matter of time it looks like.

Brian Mihalik - He is another guy to watch in state, but not sure if they will go after a 3rd guy, or maybe he could end up at DT.

Brad Carrico - Same position as Mihalik. could end up at DT, do they want to take more than 2 DE's?

DT's - We look to actually have some talent here in state next year. Two guys in Rock and Clark already being talked about getting offers soon. I say 2, you can never have enough depth at DT. Maybe 3 if we go national.

Chris Rock - I would expect him to get an offer sometime fairly soon. I see him as a top 10 talent in state. Maybe top 5. Notre Dame has already offered, and I think they could be our top competition.

Donavon Clark - Another Ohio DT that is looking good for an offer. He is said he is a Buckeye fan, which is good news.

Kris Harley DT (IN) - Shows interest in us on Scout, listed as an early top 100 player. One to keep an eye on till we have more information on.

LB's - Hopefully we land Hicks this year to go along with McVey and Turner. So next year this position is not a huge need, I see us taking 2 or 3. We already have offers out to 2.

Trey DePreist - There is rumors that he is a Michigan fan, but also rumors that he could be leaning to the good guys. We have offered, but this one could play out for awhile.

James Vaugters - Big time recruit out of Georgia with a ton of big time offers already. He and his family is originally from Ohio. Gotta like where we sit with him.

Andre Sturdivant - Another guy from Glenville. Not sure on where we stand in terms of an offer, but I would think in a normal year he gets an offer. It will depend on if there are other national guys, or the number they may be looking to take, but don't be surprised if he sees an offer at anytime...

Denzel Perryman - Rumored to have a verbal offer. Big time player from Florida.

Other in state guys Steven Daniels, Jarret Grace, Shaq Petteway. Lawrence Thomas is a name from Michigan to keep an eye on.

DB's - I will go with 4. 2 CB's 2 S's. Early to tell as we don't know what we willl finish this class with yet.

Doran Grant - Top DB in state. Already received a written offer. Lots of big time offers. Pretty sure that we land him.

Eilar Hardy - Name that keeps popping up in conversations about top 10 in state, top 100 nationally, etc. And Wade said he was going to start a thread on him. I did watch film and liked what I saw. Could he be seeing an offer in the near future? You have to think being from Pickerington we would be the favorites.

Jeremy Cash - S prospect from FL. If we offer you have to like our position. He came up to camp and really put on a performance. I see an offer at some point, and then him being a buckeye as well.

Ronald Tanner - Another in-state S prospect. Has an early offer form WVU, and getting interest from us. Has a GPA of 3.7. Haven't seen any film.

JeRyan Butler - Mom favors Ohio state, on this board, will he get an offer?

Tre Moore - Huber Heights Wayne Safety that has been a name thrown around early in the season.

Eric Robinson - DB From Indiana that I have heard some things about.

So without knowing much about #'s since last years class is not done yet, and not looking at numbers i will put out a best guess class at this early point in the season.

QB - Braxton Miller
RB - Robert Walton
WR - Shane Wynn
WR - AJ Jordan
TE - Ben Koyack
TE - Ray Hamilton
OL - Aundrey Walker
OL - ?
OL - ?
DE - Kenny Hayes
DE - Steve Miller
DT - Chris Rock
DT - Donavon Clark
LB - James Vaugters
LB - Andre Sturdivant
LB - Trey DePriest
DB- Jeremy Cash
DB - Doran Grant
DB - Eilar Hardy

That would be a stud looking class right there. And can't say with offers, I feel on the fence on many of them, other than DePreist, Koyack, and Vaugters.

I think we should take 4 OL, considering we'll only get, at the most 3, likely 2, this year.

Also, how many schollies do you think we'll have next year? That's a total of 19 slots you've got.

Honestly have no clue, have not looked at numbers...and we still are unsure how many we will land this year...

Ok, so the '11 visit list is astounding. Koyack, the Millers, Landon Turner, Hayes, Grant, and Vaughters could all be 5 stars and the rest possible top 100 guys. Seriously, that is unreal talent that will be on hand, especially with the '10 guys being there too.
2011 QB Braxton Miller (Huber Heights, OH)
2011 QB Jacoby Brissett (West Palm Beach, Florida)
2011 OL Landon Turner (Harrisonburg, Virginia)
2011 TE Nick O'Leary (West Palm Beach, Florida)
2011 TE Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pennsylvania)
2011 TE Matt Longo (Bellbrook, OH)
2011 DL Chris Rock (St. Francis DeSales)
2011 DE Kenny Hayes (Toledo, OH)
2011 DE Steve Miller (Canton, OH)
2011 LB James Vaughters (Tucker, Georgia)
2011 LB Trey DePriest (Springfield, OH)
2011 LB Curt Maggitt (West Palm Beach, Florida)
2011 DB Doran Grant (Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary)
2011 DB Ronald Tanner (Columbus Eastmoor)
2011 DB Chris Sanders (Tucker, Georgia)
2011 FL ATH Jeremy Cash (Plantation, Florida)

Gonna piggyback off of this. BUt I can't agree more. This past year landed us the # 1 class in the country. 2010, was thought of as a filler class, but if we can land guys like Hicks, Henderson, Joyner, even 2 of them, it will be more than filler thats for sure and even if not it is a top 10 class. But 2011 could take the cake.

I would say a class of 20 would be on target. It will be a class where we will be adding depth, but tons of talent. Not sure any of these guys will need to start from day 1, but there will be guys that could start from day 1.

QB - Braxton Miller - Top player in Ohio 5*, could be top 10 in country
RB - Robert Walton
TE - Ben Koyack - Top 2 player in PA 5*, Top TE in country
TE - Too many good names - Lots of 4 star type guys listed above
WR - Shayne Wynn - 4 star based on his size...gamebreaking skill 5*
WR - Once again too many good names - 4 star type guys
3 OL - Really not sure, no offers out yet...there are names out of Ohio, but not star names. Maybe not any in top 10 of Ohio
DE - Steve Miller - #2 player in Ohio. 5* One of top DE's in country
DE - Kenny Hayes - #3 player in Ohio. Could be 5*, but probably 4* top 100 type
DT - Chris Rock - 4* Top 10 Ohio. Top 100 type talent
DT - Still early
LB - James Vaughters - Top 100 type talent. Could be 5*
LB - Trey Depreist - Top 100 type talent. Top 5 in Ohio
CB - Doran Grant - Top 100 type talent. Top 5 in Ohio
DB - Jeremy Cash - Will be intersting to see early Florida Rankings. Was a stud at camp. 4* top 100 type talent.
DB - Eilar Hardy - Keep hearing the name, no offer yet tho.
DB - Ronald Tanner - Word today in his thread that he could see an offer.

That is a class of 19. I feel very very good about all the guys in the list that we have offers to. Vaughters is a little bit of an unknown as there isn't much inside info on him, but what he has said in articles makes me feel we have a great shot. All others other than maybe DePreist I would put our chances up around 80-90% keep in mind anything can change.

RB doesn't have the big names yet...

OL has some big names, Turner was here for USC game, but not sure what direction the staff will take no info and no offers to get a feel for yet.

2nd TE - Some very good TE's we should have a decent pick from.

2nd WR - once again big time names we should have our pick from. Might try to pick one form Florida, but Jordan is a top 100 type talent in our own backyard. Top 10 talent in Ohio.

DT - some names thrown out there just not sure who will see the offer.

We could land all 4 and 5 star kids. I see Miller, Miller, Koyack, Vaughters, Grant, Hayes, Depriest throwing their name in the ring for 5 stars.
