CB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, Los Angeles Chargers)

SKULL SESSION: OHIO STATE WAS THE NATION'S NO. 2 TEAM, WE'RE GONNA MISS JUSTIN FIELDS, AND SHAUN WADE COULD RETURN

SHAUN WADE BACK?

.
.
.

I'm going to be frank, Shaun Wade should under no circumstances enter the draft this year, especially if it's as a cornerback. He will be taken no sooner than the fourth round.

He should come back again and play safety – the position he played when he was one of the best and most versatile players in the country a year ago. Y'all notice the only play he made all game was a tackle for a loss on a running back? That's because he's a safety. And a damn good one.

Just sayin': Apparently it isn't a "done deal" yet that he is opting for the 2021 NFL draft.

I'd be happy to have him with the Browns. They technically have 2 CB's depending on what you think about Greedy Williams, but Wade would be a great fit as 3rd CB/S for something that isn't a first round pick. If his future is safety I don't know if it's worth coming back since safeties aren't usually first round picks. As much as I'd love to have him back I think he'll make more going now.

Feel pretty bad for the guy--he went from opting out and, by all accounts, a sure-fire first round pick, to coming back to help his team win a NC, and somehow playing himself down into the third or fourth round. Hope I'm wrong here--maybe he blows up in pre-draft workouts and a team falls in love with him in the first round, like the Raiders with Arnette.

I think that he can still make the 1st round and 2nd at worst. I'm sure NFL coaches see that he was playing out of position all year. 2019 showed what Wade can do when he's playing in the slot.

There’s certainly a risk that would come with returning for yet another run at Ohio State. More negative film could be detrimental to his NFL dream. Or it could shoot him back into the first-round conversation of the 2022 draft. That decision is for Wade to make. And it could go either way.

If Wade sits down with his coaches, family and scouts and wants to maximize his draft potential, he would be wise to return for another season at Ohio State.

If was worth it after this year, even when his draft stock was falling with each reception against him, it should be worth it again to make amends for the lackluster season in which he still was named an All-American.

“Oh yeah, definitely — [returning] was worth it,” Wade said. “I see myself growing as a man and as a team, and all the young guys growing as men, all the things that we went through, the adversity. I’m happy I came back, and I’m just glad we got here. I’m upset we didn’t get the win, but I’m definitely happy I came back and accomplished some big things with this team.

“I’m proud of them. I’m proud of everybody.”

If Shaun Wade has the same trust in himself as he did last year, he would be wise to make the same decision he made last January. It would be worth it again.
