Springs was indeed drafted #3 overall in 1997, but it was Antione Winfield who won the Thorpe Award in 1998 with no interceptions. This is certainly true at first, and will remain true until 7Sevyn proves himself. Arnette and Okudah only got as many opportunities as they did because QBs had to decide which first-rounder to challenge. Shawn Springs won a Thorpe award and was a high draft pick with zero interceptions. We didn't see much of him that year, but the NFL scouts got to see the All-22, and they saw plenty
I'd have to agree that I'd be very surprised if he doesn't announce he's coming back. If he catches COVID though and has to sit out 3-4 weeks I think he'd be gone.
That’s true, he was the Big Ten Defensive POY, and a consensus All-American, but we wasn’t even a Thorpe Award Finalist. If I recall, Springs was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year without any interceptions that year.

He did go on ESPN yesterday to essentially let people know it was his birthday.I didn't hear he was announcing his decision on espn. Now I am even more sure he is coming back. He's already opted out---he's going to go on espn and say...I'm still opted out? But I guess a lot stranger things have happened.
