CB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, Los Angeles Chargers)

As it happened at the game I told my son “we’re in trouble” when they ejected him.

Clemson scored 0 points before the ejection and 29 after.

I’ll post more about my feelings around targeting in CFb but I’ve said it all before. The refs at this level aren’t good enough to use the rule. I 100% agree with the spirit of the rule, I am sick of watching them misapply it week after week, year after year.

Skinny wade arm hugging a Tank like Trevor is a recipe for a highlight reel play for Trevor, particularly when arriving at full speed.

Exactly. Guys, if he had hugged him, Lawrence shakes him off and runs for a 1st down. And people on here are wondering why he did that.

It's a bad rule, but the ref also has to take into account what's happening during the play as nd the context of the hit. It's not as black and white rule, otherwise there would be 10 ejections a game.

It looked worse than it was but they don’t leave wiggle room for the official,

Will he stay or go?

Pure guess on my part but I think he will leave....dealt with an injury late in year, dealt with an injury that cost him his freshman season.....I believe he’s squarely in the mid to late 1st rd. He’s got a pretty unique skill set that is extremely useful for today’s game. The fact he can play inside or out, actually adds a lot of value at the next level and would likely get him on field immediately wherever he lands.

I hope I’m wrong.....it’d be a massive boost to next years defense if he stays. I agree he elevates himself to top 10 range with another year. Just not sure 7-10 picks, IMO, is worth a year.

I have to think he'll leave as well. It's amazing how great a player he has been here relative to how under the radar he seems to be nationally. But... and I say this fully aware of GMs making really dumb decisions... football people can see the value Wade brings to his position. Does he have anything else to prove at the college level? Not really. The odd thing is... with his injuries... he "should have" proved so much more in his time here. I put that in quotes only because I don't want to be read as somehow suggesting Wade shouldn't have sustained injuries or whatever. My point is just that he is like Nick Bosa in a sense.. did so much when on the field, but wasn't on the field as much as he could have been in a 'perfect' world.

Only thing he hasn't shown consistently to date at OSU is that he can go lock down a #1 WR on the outside.

I'm sure he can but he didn't do it last year and wasn't asked to do it this year. That could be the only value booster I could see to him coming back.

The other thing that he has to weigh is the fact there is a big difference between late first round/2nd round $ and top half of 1st round money.

Who knows? Hope he stays but won't be shocked if he goes.

It would have been better for Wade to karate kick Lawrence in the groin and get unnecessary roughness, 15 yard penalty than what he did.

Here's to hoping he's angry enough to come back next year. That might make this better.

I posted this same sentiment on Twitter. That he should have drop kicked Lawrence at full speed. Had he done that, he would have been penalized 15 yards most likely but not ejected because he didn't "lead with his helmet"

It also then make me think of this...

I really think Wade should come back and play outside. If he were to come back he's a top 10 pick next year. Comes out now and maybe he's a late first early 2nd.

He'd be enormous to get back
Late 1st and early 2nd rd picks still get paid though. And it's not set that if he came back that hed improve his stock, that's more wishful fan thinking.
I would like for Wade to come back as well as a fan, but I also look at these scenarios as a parent, and I'd want him to leave and not risk further injury for free

Of any kids who have recently had to make the choice, he's about as close to 50/50 for stay / go as I can recall. I do think that a year of being CB1 in this defense outweighs the opportunity cost associated with time value of money for the one year head start. I think he easily makes it up, sans injury, in second year of his rookie contract if he stays.

Either way, I don't envy the decision he has to make and I wish him all the best regardless of his choice.
