CB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, Los Angeles Chargers)

Glad to hear it, Wade's potential is off the charts. Having Okudah and Wade on the corners is something I have been dying to see. I know there will be a ton of competition there with Sheffield, Arnette, Riep and Williamson, but I would bet on Wade getting serious PT if he is healthy and putting the work in.

Forgotten 5-Star Shaun Wade Ready To Play

Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class has already made a strong impact on the field.

J.K. Dobbins won the starting running back job in the season opener and rushed for more than 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns.

Chase Young earned his way into a loaded defensive end rotation and racked up five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Jeff Okudah worked his way up the depth chart, seeing significant minutes in a number of games including nearly full-time duty in the Cotton Bowl win over USC.

Baron Browning was on the field from day one and had a season-high six tackles against Maryland. He’s now considered a front-runner to grab the Mike linebacker job for this fall with Tuf Borland out with an Achilles injury.

But while all of those players have already made their mark on the program, one of the highest-rated recruits in that class has yet to play a meaningful snap.

Cornerback Shaun Wade was a 5-star recruit, and the subject of a high-profile battle between Urban Meyer and Nick Saban.

He ranked as the No. 2 player at his position in the entire country. Only Okudah was rated as a better corner. That had even some of his teammates dreaming of the pair shutting down opposing passing games together.

Unfortunately for Wade, an abdominal injury derailed his 2017 season before it ever started. He had to sit out the entire year, watching his classmates making big plays in crucial moments.

“During the summer we were talking a lot about just going out there and making a big impact,” said Okudah. “So when he went down it kind of hurt me that he couldn’t play.”

Wade is healthy now, which means he finally has a chance to get back out on the field and show why he was one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation.

“Shaun’s done a really good job,” said OSU cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson. “He’s healthy now, he’s progressed every practice that we’ve had.”

Going back and watching the spring game this kids football IQ is ridiculous... He makes great decisions in bracket coverage, his anticipation is the what legends are made from... if he can handle it physically he may be our most complete corner already. To me the nuances like reaction anticipation IQ and the things you can't teach are what separates him.

This could work out fantastically for the Buckeyes......Sheffield bolts for NFL this year, with Wade stepping into his place, and Okudah leaving for NFL year after next, pushing Wade up to be the next great one....Know there will be another hotshot coming aboard by then, so the succession would continue. So, if we can anoint Bosa #1 in next year's draft, then I guess calling another three years (at least) of first rounder CBs should be a slam dunk, yes? Go Bucks! This could be looked upon as the Golden Age of tOSU football someday.

And a lot of folks are projecting Young as the next top 5 draft pick after Bosa leaves. He has the tools. Time to see the production this yr on the field. Plenty of talent stockpiled at tOSU.... and it aint slowin' down.

I'll continue to say that Wade is the best DB back there and will show out this year. That injury last season cost him valuable playing time but I'm guessing by the Fall he'll be the guy that we have zero concerns with and have the confidence back to lock down.

His increased role will cost Arnette some PT.

I just don’t see JO or KS coming off the field as much as Damon if Wade shows out in fall camp.

The thought of a healthy JO, an improved KS and a twitched up long Wade on field at same time is unreal. Those 3 guarding the air space is enticing.

Agreed that I think the talent and ceiling on Wade is about as high as it gets. If he taps into it, he is going to be special. I think Okudah is right there but that is also why I was out of my mind excited when we got both. Then you have Williamson, who I though looked good in the spring game as well in the same class...Riep too. I guess I am saying we are set at DB.

Ward took a big jump and so it's possible that we could see the same thing with Arnette. Regardless, we are stacked at CB and could easily have a four man rotation.
