CB Jermaine Mathews, Jr. (National Champion)

Unless there is some off the field issue or issues in practice, there is no excuse for this under the circumstances. Burke is probably the better player most days, but he certainly was not that night. I would even submit that Mathews should have been playing some even if Burke was killing it to keep guys fresh and because he is that good.

reminiscent of Holtmann and how he would get stuck on certain guys and never sub even when they were struggling thus leading to guys getting frustrated and leaving

Good thought, but uncertain how the crystal ball works, foretelling which pass route will cause IGB to get burned and hold....but certainly see and agree on the point. Hopefully this weekend at NW, we'll see some significant minutes for the back-ups, of which Jermaine should benefit. And others. What with tOSU offense striking quickly, the D is not getting enough recovery time, before it's time to go back and strap them up. Still don't think that this Knowles D is promoting enough 'gambling' for interceptions, but plays it conservatively with PBU's. Not sophisticated enough a viewer to make that kind of determination. With a view toward the playoffs, everyone, including the talking heads, claim that depth will be needed, as 3-4 games are added to the season. Seems incumbent upon HC's to have back-ups to see significant minutes to keep fresh legs and in case of injuries. Gonna stop here, and save it for another post...

I was just thinking the same thing.
I have been shouting it during games. Iggy is a great cover corner but the penalties are killing us. Can he wear mits during the game? Matthews is probably the better option in those situations, though I will say Mathews seems to have fallen off a little bit from last year. I wouldn't call it a soph slump and I am just going off memory, but we need him back to his full potential.

Not negging the kid and he's certainly had good moments, but we need him dialed in down the stretch because he is going to be important.

Jermaine isn’t a back-up…..kid is an absolute stud playing starters reps at this point.

Have loved calling out some of the “lesser heralded” guys tonight. Jermaine has made Davison and Denzel SOOOOOO much better by getting them off the field when a blow is needed. I dont think they had the trust early in season…..now it’s an immediate sub when a guy expends even a bit of energy. Matthews has been key on this turnaround for the Bucks.
