CB James Scott (official thread)

Welcome James!!!
BTW the "children" and I mean it literally, over on the UF Scout board are ripping James a new one and also acting like childish idiots just ripping on Ohio in general, quite sad. That is why I love BP, we never rip a kid or state like that on a decision that is best for HIM not for the SCHOOL that us recruitniks like!

I warned everyone on the BCS Championship thread that SwampGas is one of the worst message boards on scout.com. You get dumber just from visiting it.

I know this was came down to the end, but I always had a good feeling about James being a part of this class...ever since he and Nate hit it off last Summer. Have to love the DBs coming in this class...very fast but even moreso very physical.

Scouts, Inc.'s evaluation...

Evaluation: Scott is one heckuva good looking athlete on the hoof. He is a cornerback with the offensive skills of a running back and the tackling mentality of a safety. He has adequate size and has a well built, sturdy frame. This is a guy who is versatile in coverage -- he is physical in press, strong in cover-two and smooth in his pedal in off-coverage. He is low in his back pedal and uses the shuffle technique a lot. Has smooth hips and can turn and run with little wasted motion in transition. He likes to get up in press and muscle the receiver to the sideline. He tracks the deep ball well and shows good "ups" to compete for the jump ball. Has good ball skills and is capable of big plays on interception returns. He plays the ball in front of him very well -- plants and closes quickly. Shows very good short area burst and flashes some catch-up acceleration if out of position. He plays with a good motor in run support. Isn't afraid to come up and get into the mix. Takes good angles to the ball and flashes some pop at the point of attack. Is comfortable playing near the box, will slip blocks and is a solid wrap up tackler. He is an excellent kick returner, hits the lane full speed and doesn't dance. Runs with authority and toughness and shows good speed in the open field. His movement skills are that of a safety, and he probably isn't overly explosive in terms of quickness, and though he has good speed, he isn't a burner. Overall, Scott is a great athlete with solid football instincts and playmaking ability.

very fast but even more so very physical.

Excellent observation by wad45. Very rarely do I watch many of the video clips of the "must have" recruits, but Scott's film just jumped out at me. This guy appears to be a real player. I haven't seen tape of Rolle, but I can't shake the feeling that we will see Mr. Scott and Mr. Rolle contributing, especially on special teams, very early in their careers. Great job of recruiting by the staff, and congrats to James.
