CB Gareon Conley (Official Thread)

JonBenke;2268781; said:
Hoke only pulls the offer if you lie and take visits behind the coaches backs (Brown, Dawson). Conley was upfront and honest.

Back on topic .. is Ohio State recruiting him as a DB or a WR?

Yet Dawson had not visited anyone when he mutually "decommitted." He informed Michigan he was going to visit Florida that weekend and they pulled his offer.

Nice spin though.

Gareon Conley schedules two official visits
November, 30, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

Urban Meyer wasted little time in targeting one of the biggest free agents in the 2013 class.

Meyer visited ESPN 150 cornerback Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) at his school and then finished up with an in-home visit. It was a visit Tigers coach Jason Hall said went off without a hitch.

?It went great. I think it was a chance for Gareon to be around Coach Meyer,? Hall said. ?It was a good chance for Gareon to ask a lot of questions. Coach Meyer is a great coach, great person. It was good for him to be around our building. He did a home visit last night as well.?

Meyer and Conley will certainly get know more of each other as the cornerback will come to Columbus on an official visit Dec. 6.

With some additional training, conditioning he might be able to shave that 4.5 to a 4.45 or faster.

As long as he can cover wrs and wrap up tackle in space. I don't even care about his 40 times if he can do both

He's still probably growing. At 170 lbs, he will need to bulk up another 20-25 lbs of muscle to be able to take down larger receivers.

Idk if he needs to get that big. I'd say 10-15lbs and he'd be fine. Most of the top cbs in cfb are under 200, and closer to 190. His first year, I'd be fine with him being around 180, losing little speed and gaining more fundamentals in the tackling game, which all our dbs need. No more shoulder and arm tackles, let's start wrapping up.

I would agree, but he is also tall for a CB at 6'2" Proportionally speaking, 170 is very light for a guy that tall. Winfield is only 5'9"

Very valid point, I forgot to take into account his height. At 6'2'' he can definitely put on 20-25lbs then. Xavier Rhodes for Florida st is 6'2'' and plays around 210-215. Conley doesn't need to get that big, but playing at 200-205 would be great

Sunday Special: Massillon's Conley might be wavering on Michigan commitment

It?s not clear if Massillon wide receiver Gareon Conley has decommitted from Michigan, but it looks like Ohio State now could be in play for the highly touted recruit. Conley attended the Ohio State-Michigan game in Columbus ? and stood on the Ohio State sideline.

It looks like Michigan is about to lose out on Massillon defensive back and wide receiver Gareon Conley. And Urban Meyer could be on the verge of stealing him.

The Ohio State head coach came to Massillon last week to visit with Conley. Essentially, Conley decommitted to Michigan after meeting with Meyer. He has not committed to Ohio State, or anywhere else.

Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has an unwritten rule that players who verbally commit to Michigan and then take official visits to other schools after that will not have their offers honored. Conley attended the Ohio State-Michigan game in Columbus and stood on Ohio State?s sideline. That isn?t unusual since he was a guest of the Buckeyes.

Massillon head coach Jason Hall said he was unsure if Conley decommitted to Michigan.

?I don?t know,? Hall said. ?He hasn?t said anything to me. I know he is going on a visit to Ohio State (on Thursday) and then to Michigan the following week.?

Hall said Michigan won?t pull its offer to Conley.

?I?m sure Michigan doesn?t like it,? Hall said. ?But Gareon has never seen any other places. He will look at both places and make a decision.?

Meyer isn?t letting Conley go, and in fact, is putting on the hard sale. The weekend that Conley goes to Ohio State is the weekend that Meyer has his A-list recruits in town. Also, Ohio State is telling Conley what he wants to hear.

The Buckeyes told him he could play wide receiver.

Conley?s mentality seems more suited to play offense, although his cover skills are second to none. He caught 50 passes for 1,096 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Conley averaged 21.9 yards a catch.
