CB Eli Apple (All B1G, National Champion, Los Angeles Chargers)

Eli Apple took a lot of heat about his performance during the Michigan State game and there have been a lot of comments about his performance regressing this year.

Let's just place on record that he had an excellent game

Well said. And I'll add that that MSU criticism is misplaced--Burbridge only had 4 catches for 65 yards, and there's no way his "I'll run out of bounds as long as I want, then dive back in bounds and catch the ball" move should've been allowed to stand. Big Ten refs.

IMHO, he's gone.
His folks have been pretty vocal about the "risk/reward" aspect of college sports; I'd be surprised if he didn't choose to go and get more financially based rewards for his investment and risk.
Agree. Always felt like he was eyeing this as a business decision as he should and was looking to bolt. Only saving grace will be if the risk/reward evaluation tells the family it makes sense to return and shoot for a first/early 2nd round draft in '17.

I'm not sure the family is hurting for money. I'm sure he wants to get paid for his talents, but getting to the NFL is the easy part. Staying in the NFL should be the real goal. It would serve him better to return for another year, but I would understand if he left.
Just ask Buchtel grad Antonio Pittman who surprisingly declared early. Lasted all but one year and IMO it was just because he wasn't ready yet. Got drafted in what the 4th round? Then got cut and never could gain his footing from there... once you get cut in the NFL imo ur basically done more often than not or otherwise someone would've locked you up for years.

I think Apple would benefit from another year immensely to be honest. Solid corner but if he comes back and does well next year I think he could hit the first round next year which will give him guaranteed 3-5 years. If He leaves now and if he runs poorly (4.6 or so) hes looking at a 4th round draft spot and 3 year deal max with no guarantees.

Doran Grant was a practice squad guy and was cut as a 4th round pick. IMO grant played better last year than Apple did this year as well. I wish apple the best obviously but hope he doesn't declare then end up a late 3rd or early 4th guy because he has the talent to be a 1st
