CB E.J. Underwood (transfer to Pikeville)

One of the gurus at BN did say that Underwood was supposed to play corner and that Gamble was slated to go to offense full time; until the A-1 incident.

I think they were quoting Underwood on that. I remember Steve or Dave writing something but I don't think those words were ever spoken by anyone other than EJ.

Underwood has been burned once or twice, but he's given up fewer TD's in his college career than Gamble did.

Uh, that's because Underwood has been in about one-fifth the amount of games that Gamble was in.

I have no problem with him (or anyone else) playing provided they are the best at their position. My original point was that you can't compare what he did on the field with what Gamble did. However, it would be nice if we were be able compare him to Gamble once the season starts...

To each his own. My point in the original post was that we are now so stacked at the CB position, that IF EJ starts, he will be scary-good. I think Gamble will eventually be a good NFL corner, but I do NOT think he was a good college CB. Understandable, however, since he had no experience and had to pick up a lot of new concepts, etc., but I was never comfortable with him defending a WR one-on-one. He has the talent, and will develop the instincts and experience to be a success in the NFL, but I would have been just as comfortable last year with EJ out there.

One of the insiders confirmed with the staff EJ had impressed enough in practice that he was going to be getting half the snaps at CB instead of Gamble and that would allow Gamble to focus more on offense. I don't know if it's true, and don't really care. Youboty and Underwood have both looked good, whoever starts will do just fine IMO. If I'm a betting man, my money is on EJ.

Does anyone know how EJ cut his hand in the first place? I do, and just wondering what you guys think.

he said he cut his hand on a broken bottle- A1 Sauce

edit: my bad- didn't see it was already answered- ditto what FtCollins said

some guys were talking about it over on the espn message boards the other day. One guy said he was cooking, tripped and fell on the a-1 bottle somehow....not sure about that one. Another guy said he was using it in another way, but didnt go further then that...so all in all, i have no clue :nerd:

I just have a real difficult time drinking the A-1 story. Just bitter to my taste buds.

Let's suppose he has an outstanding year this year. You know that Musberger, Corso, Trev, Davey and everybody will be making fun of his incident... but then he gets burned once and I can hear it already, Musberger: "Looks like he slipped on the A-1, FOLKS!" (Drink if you're playing the Brent Musberger drinking game.) Or a ball slips through his hands....
