Ohio will be key again for MSU

Since being hired at Michigan State back in November of 2006, Mark Dantonio has made recruiting the state of Ohio a top priority.
Other coaches like John L. Smith and Nick Saban also recruited there, but Dantonio has taken it to another level. Nearly 30 percent of the players signed by Michigan State since Dantonio's arrival played their high school ball in Ohio. That percentage is higher than any other Big Ten school -- except for Ohio State, of course.
Michigan State has recently extended scholarships offers to several Ohio players they are prioritizing for the class of 2011.
Mark Givler, who covers recruiting for OhioVarsity.com, recently stated that the players that Dantonio has offered from the Buckeye State are "impressive" and he expects Michigan State to sign "another strong group from Ohio."
Here's a look at a few of his preseason top-ranked players that Michigan State is currently pursuing:
No. 1: DB Doran Grant of Akron Saint Vincent-Saint Mary
The top-ranked player in Ohio has strong Spartan ties. His father, Ted Jones, was an All-Big Ten wide receiver for Michigan State back in the 1980s. Michigan State has had Grant on campus multiple times and he will be one of top recruits in the nation.
