CB Devon Torrence (official thread)

If he doesn't sign with an MLB team out of high school (2007 draft), Torrence becomes ineligible until the 2010 draft, unless he turns 21 within 45 days of the 2009 draft.

The only way he could get into the 2008 or 9 draft would be by spending time at a junior college.

Chris Weinke played minor league baseball for six years before he went to FSU to become their QB. He originally sign his LOI with FSU but bailed to join the Blue Jay farm system. It seems he was able to go into the minor leagues right out of high school and before entering FSU...

mili, the first sentence in your quoted text states he can leave right out of HS... it's the few years following (and/or until he turns 21) that he is ineligible for the draft.

But what is "right out of high school"? There has to be a specific timeframe (before entering college, within 90 days after high school graduation, etc.)..."right out of high school" is too ambiguous. My point was more along the lines that Torrence can still sign his LOI with us, which would apparently lock him down to us should he opt to go play baseball and come back to play college football.

Yes, I should have been more clear. The teams can negotiate with their drafted players up until that person's 4-year college resumes in the fall.

From what I can gather, a returning player like Weinke would be bound to their original LOI, but could ask to be released from it.
