This is good
Seems like most of the time from his stats (on top of my recollection). Kind of like when Springs and Winfield rarely got tested. I fully expect Denzel to work his way into a 1st round selection this year...this is the most excited I have ever been for a secondary. Now do how many times he was in single coverage where the QB looked his way and said “nope”
I think he was listed as an Athlete by recruiting services because he was also talented on offense, but we were only looking at him as a CB. That said, he was definitely under the radar and a recruit not many even took note of in his class. That includes me btw, I was shocked when he trotted out as a starter and was worried about our secondary, but quickly realized why he was out there. Amazing what he turned out to be, shows that recruiting ratings are not a perfect science even though it has become fairly reliable over the years. When I clicked on this thread it took me to the first post, where he is listed as an Athlete. So glad both he and OSU realized his future was as a DB.
There's an interview with Burke that he did with Bobby Carpenter and Josh Perry on their Podcast where he said when he first got to OSU, Hartline and Coombs were fighting over him. But he wasn't as polished as the other WRs(don't quote me on that, but I believe he said something along those lines), he just mainly ran 9 routes in HS and ran past most DBs, that wasn't going to fly in college. When I clicked on this thread it took me to the first post, where he is listed as an Athlete. During his opening statement at Big Ten Media Days on Tuesday, Ryan Day said he thinks Denzel Burke “has a chance to be the best corner in America” this year.
Burke’s response to that comment during his interview session later that afternoon reflected the confidence Burke consistently projects in media interviews.
“He's not wrong,” Burke said.
Burke’s goal for himself goes even further than being the best cornerback in college football this year; he wants to be the best cornerback in Ohio State history.
“I want to be recognized as the best corner to ever come through here and put my name on the wall (of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center), get a tree (in Buckeye Grove for being an All-American),” Burke said. “That's my ambition.”
Burke will need to have a truly fantastic season if he’s going to be recognized as Ohio State’s greatest cornerback of all-time. After all, the Buckeyes have a history of producing elite cornerbacks such as Antoine Winfield, Shawn Springs, Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Gamble and Denzel Ward, to name a few.

Re: “I want to be recognized as the best corner to ever come through here.”– Denzel Burke
Just sayin': He's got a way to go to be considered better than Antoine Winfield, Shawn Springs, Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Gamble, and Denzel Ward.
Yeah that is a tough recognition to earn at Ohio State, but he's been pretty great and came back one more year to prove it when he didn't have to. But he does have to prove it, the names you mentioned are rarified air material.
If we're talking the entire secondary, Doss might be my favorite of all time. He's legit one of my favorite Buckeyes ever. I was just thinking CBs with Burke. In terms of a player coming back for a reason though, put Denzel in that category.Just sayin': If Ohio State does win the National Championship and if he was an important piece of the defense in doing so; he could possibly be mentioned along with Mike Doss, i.e. "I'm putting my NFL career on hold a year to come back to Ohio State and win a National Championship" RARIFIED AIR (even though Mike Doss didn't get a lucrative NIL deal to do so)......
