CB Chimdi Chekwa (Official Thread)

Please help me out here guys. What I am seeing on the other bigger networks is that he runs a 4.7 Was timed at the Tallahassee nike event at 4.67 in the 40. Not particularly physical (just shy of 6') and 165lbs.

At the Tampa event he ran a 4.69

I dont want to be misconscrewed as being a hater but frankly, I dont see the sense in the offer. Scout ranks him 2*'s, Rivals 3. OSU is BY FAR the best offer he had.

I wish he well and we know he can be a diamond in the rough but Im growing concerned with this years recruiting trend

Come on man... Trust the staff and not the recruiting sites. He's 2*'s on scout because they haven't had any film on him (per Scott Kennedy). Those numbers from the combine are from last May. The kid is only 17 and has really grown up and come into his own this year athletically. It's not unheard of for some kids to hit their growth spurts at later times. I for one liked his videos, and am glad to have him as a Buckeye. He'll be another great CB here.

He was at 6'0" 165 lbs. and ran a 4.67 in May at the Nike Camp in Tennessee.

I saw the Tampa 4.69 too...when was that?

Probably before this season too...those times are from a long time ago. There is a reason he was offered.

Scout has him at a 4.54 and 6'1" and 170 lbs.

The Times-Union has named Chimdi as the #7 senior CB in the state of Florida...and that's some pretty high praise given the number of D1 CBs that come out of Florida each year and great news for Buckeye fans given the fact that Youboty is going pro. I feel veryconfident that the likes of Jenkins, Amos, Chekwa, Welch, etc. will have our secondary in good hands next year.

It is these types of kids that come out of Florida and shine. Much like a Gamble or Holmes. I will take these types every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I agree, it prolly wasnt the reason he was offered, BUT Wallaces PSU decision may have been the reason he came here.

I doubt Chimdi had any idea where Wallace was planning on going when he made his decision to be a Buckeye. He chose OSU because it was the best fit for him and I really believe that he is going to be a great Buckeye...one of those Hawk/Jenkins/Henton-type sleepers...

Thanks. Being in the top 7 at CB in a state like Fl. is definately not a slight on the kid with all the talent in Fl. I really look for Chimidi to have a great career here and maybe help out a little early on with all the DB's going pro.

Chekwa size is what I really like. Speed can be improved along with quickness but size is key.

I like our chances (of improving speed and quickness) with coach Reynolds at the helm.

P.S.
As far as some of the ?? about his 40 times...I thought someone asked Chad Johnson yesterday what his 40 time in college and at the combine was and he said he was never clocked better than in the 4.5s range, but that was because he thought there was too much preasure involved with a buch of people with stop watches looking at you. He fllowed up with something to the effect of, "do I look like I only run a 4.5?"

And Shawn Springs was asked today on Cold Pizza who he thought was the most difficult WR in the NFL to cover...his answer was Chad Johnson.

Not comparing anyone to Chad Johnson, but if the coaches like Chimdi, then I like him.
