COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Chimdi Chekwa, a senior defensive back on the sixth-ranked Ohio State football team, was named to the 2010 Walter Camp All-America Team as a second team selection, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Thursday. The honor for the Buckeye cornerback adds to his first team all-Big Ten selection and Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist nomination this season.

Chekwa, a native of Clermont, Fla., has played a major role on a Buckeye defense that ranks second in total defense (250.5 ypg), fourth in rushing defense (94.3 ypg), fourth in pass defense (156.25 ypg), third in scoring defense (13.3 ppg) and is tied for third in turnover margin (+1.17). Chekwa leads the team with three interceptions this year to go along with 42 tackles and two forced fumbles.

He was named defensive player of the week by the foundation Sept. 12 following his performance in the 36-24 win over Miami (Fla.), recording two interceptions and six tackles, including one for loss vs. the Hurricanes.
