FWIW, I know all the SEC speed talk is tongue in cheek, but the fact remains that we're all using an improper term here. Roby does not have "SEC Speed", but rather he has "Southern Speed™"

SEC speed is something you only attain when you actually play for a SEC team. "Southern Speed™"and "SEC speed" are similar, yet different things.

Likewise, I'd like to point out it should be "Midwestern Smarts", or at least "non-Southern Smarts", rather than "Big Ten smarts". I've seen enough movies to realize what those people from the south are like.

Ha, ha my bad. I was hoping that his soft verbal to an SEC team would suffice to establish that he indeed does have SEC speed, but I withdraw my statement now that I know that "actually play[ing] for an SEC team" is the true test for SEC speed. Regardless, dude is fast.

Great news, another of those diamond in the rough, late offer types. This young man is a great student, and has excellent athletic ability, another Tressel type kid, these types usually play well beyond their "*" rating.

WOW. I think he must have really had a great senior season. I saw the highlights from halfway thru his Senior year and he looked much improved already from his Junior year. He also moved really far up the Georgia charts after his season, along with the offers from Georgia and Alabama that's gotta say a lot.

Great get. Can't sleep on this one!!

After watching his video I really think Bradley's talent is more suited to play WR and KR. This kid has some serious speed and can run like the wind. Good thing because I would imagine that he will lose a step or two once he crosses over the Mason Dixon Line....

As I've said before, these kids get rated and ranked based on what they do when they're 15 or 16 years old. Also, the rating services rely heavily on how kids perform at camps and combines. So, the early bloomers who perform well in gym shorts get five-star ratings.

These are Roby's current ratings:

Scout: 3*, #43 CB nationally
Rivals: 3*, #67 in Georgia, not ranked at CB nationally

These are Roby's stats and offers:

6' 1", 171 lbs, 4.4 forty, 40" vertical
Offered by Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn

If initial ratings and rankings were done after the kids' senior years, then Roby would possibly be a five-star prospect, and at the very least a high four-star. His height is much better than a couple of the other DB prospects whom Ohio State offered (Lemarcus Joyner, Latwan Anderson), and his speed and athletic ability are just as good. He's a bit lean, but after a red shirt season, he's probably up to 190 or so, which makes him the ideal size to be a Buckeye corner. Plus, he's got a 3.86 GPA and no character issues.

If the kid turns out to be another Donald Washington or Ashton Youboty, then he will have been a quality signee, not doubt about it ... but he's got the potential to be another Malcolm Jenkins ... and if I'm going to take a risk on a kid, I like my odds in finding the next Malcolm Jenkins (6' 1", 205 lbs) a whole lot better than in finding the next Antoine Winfield (5' 8", 180 lbs).

I guess what I'm saying is this ... I like Roby better than Joyner (size, upside) and way better than Anderson (size, upside, no academic or character issues). It will be interesting to see how their respective careers turn out.
