CB Armani Reeves (National Champion)

I'm not surprised (and even expected) Bogard. Looking back, I didn't notice Tanner too much this past season, while we saw him play a good bit in 2013, so he's not a real big shocker. But Reeves, dang that sucks.

Former Catholic Memorial football star Armani Reeves to sit out the 2015 season due to concussions

Article states he'll receive a medical redshirt for 2015 & be eligible to return for final season in 2016.

I don't understand why he would need a medical redshirt. He was a true junior so he has a redshirt year available. I understand medical redshirts to be applicable for players who played during a season, but less than 20% of the contests, and we're injured during the first half of the season. In that case basically the player gets the year back and count it as their redshirt year notwithstanding the fact they actually played. A medical waiver would get him a 6th year if he lost 2 years to injury. That's not the case. He is still only going into year 4 of 5, so if he's coming back in 2016 then he just takes his available redshirt year in 2015. But, if he's coming back then his scholarship counts toward the 85. A medical exemption would allow him to remain on scholarship but not count. But that bylaw (15.5.1.3) only applies to players that are permanently medically unable to play. I don't believe the rule allows you to take an exemption, be a non-counter, and then come back. Once you take a medical exemption you are basically permanently ineligible.

It is curious to me that this comes up after the season, but didn't prevent him from playing in the championship game. Same for Ron Tanner. The timing just seems a bit odd.
