Hughes has been cleared to do some light bball activities, like shooting, dribbling.

I think with it only being a finger injury once he is fully cleared he should still be in shape, b/c it isnt like he hasnt been able to run. I see him returning in about 10-14 days.

Finally, Hughes nearing return

Guard cleared by doctors to practice, expects to be back before postseason

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - For months, all Larry Hughes got was bad news.
That is starting to change.
The finger injury that has dogged him since October finally is close to being healed, and his return appears to be in sight.
Hughes had another positive exam from Dr. Thomas Graham at Curtis National Hand Institute in Baltimore on Tuesday, where he had a second surgery on his right middle finger in February.
Staying realistic, the Cavs are sticking to their original timeline that would keep the guard out another two weeks at a minimum.
The always-optimistic Hughes has told his teammates that he hopes to be back by next week.
What is sure is that doctors cleared Hughes to take part in practice and, most importantly for the Cavs, he's on pace to play in games before the end of the regular season.
That will prepare him for the playoffs.
Hughes had his most recent surgery six weeks ago. He wore a cast for two weeks, then a brace for two more. For the last two weeks, he has been taking part in light conditioning and shooting drills.
Cavs coach Mike Brown, though, said he's not entertaining the thought Hughes will be back soon -- if at all.
``I don't want to get slammed like the last time,'' Brown said.
Hughes has missed 42 games with the injury.
Remember the third
The margin was 27-8 -- the result of a dizzying 12-minute span that might have been the low point of the Cavs' season.
After building a 19-point halftime lead over the Dallas Mavericks two weeks ago, the Cavs quickly coughed it up in a miserable display of offensive and defensive basketball in that third quarter at the American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks ended up winning by four points.
Since then, the Cavs have won five consecutive games and saved their best basketball for key moments in the second half.
Following the loss to the Mavericks and a similar loss at Miami when they blew a 15-point, second-half lead two nights before, the Cavs have both teams at home this week, having learned and applied some tough lessons.
``We've been a different team since then; we're making plays down the stretch,'' LeBron James said.
``We learned a lot in that game. We've grown and we've shown improvement.''
Brown, who was incensed after the game, then faced the most adversity of his first season, said that in retrospect, those tough losses could've helped the team's growth.
``You hate to go through that. I was very upset after that game,'' Brown said.
``We aren't Dallas yet. You hate to say that, but it is going to take some time. For us to go through that, it was a great learning experience and as a competitor it sits with you. I think it will help in the long run.''
Tracking heroics
With several big passes that led to game-winning plays and the first game-winning shot of his career in the last week, James' late-game performance is certainly on the uptick.
His progress in the clutch -- consistent in the second half of the season -- is, like many things, something the Elias Sports Bureau tracks.
According to Elias figures, eight times this season, James has scored to give his team the final lead in the fourth quarter or overtime, as he did in Sunday's victory in Houston. That ties him for second in the NBA with the Mavericks' Dirk Notwitzki and the Lakers' Kobe Bryant.
The Celtics' Paul Pierce leads the league with nine.

CLEVELAND - The Cavaliers saw a 22-point lead vanish the last time they faced the Dallas Mavericks. Since then, the Cavs have become the aggressor during crunch time.
Head Coach Mike Brown’s team will carry a five-game winning streak into tonight’s rematch with the Mavericks at Quicken Loans Arena. The Cavs have not lost since March 14, a 91-87 defeat at Dallas.
The Cavaliers led, 53-34, at halftime and were on their way to ending a five-game losing streak at Dallas. But the Mavericks, in contention for the NBA’s best record, held Cleveland to just 8 third-quarter points and took the lead.
“When they faced adversity and things weren’t going well, they stepped it up,” Cavs guard Eric Snow said. “We didn’t meet that. That game more than anything was about stepping up to the challenge.”
The Cavs have faced and met many challenges during their winning streak. Four of the five victories easily could have become losses.
A recap:
n Flip Murray’s 14 fourth-quarter points help the Cavs rally from a 15-point deficit and beat the Los Angeles Lakers, 96-95, on March 19. Murray hits the winning free throw with 3.4 seconds left and finishes with 21 points.
n Murray hits a game-tying 3-pointer with four-tenths of a second left in regulation, and LeBron James hits a game-winning jumper with nine-tenths of a second left in overtime in a 120-118 victory over Charlotte on March 22. In his 227th pro contest, James hits a last-second shot to win a game for the first time. In overtime, he finishes 3-of-3 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line, while handing out two assists .
n Cleveland comes back from a 9-point second-half deficit and beats Boston, 94-82, on Friday. James scores 19 of his game-high 36 points in the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers outscore the Celtics, 36-23.
n The Cavs rally from a 13-point second-half deficit and beat Houston, 104-102, in overtime on Sunday. James’ 3-point play on Cleveland’s final possession of regulation forces the extra period. He scores 13 points, grabs two rebounds and hands out three assists during the game’s final 17 minutes.
“Lately, these guys have shown they’re not afraid, and their confidence is high no matter if they’re up or down,” Brown said. “They know they’re going to give themselves an opportunity to win if they keep executing on both ends of the floor.”
JONES’ RESURGENCE
Point guard Damon Jones played his best game of the year Sunday. He hit 8-of-10 field goals — including 5-of-6 3-pointers — scored a season-high 22 points, handed out four assists and tied a season high with four rebounds.
Jones, who was in a shooting slump during the middle third of the season, has hit nine of his last 12 3-point attempts. Brown saw another successful part of his game late in the third quarter when the Cavaliers went on a 15-5 run.
“In six of our last eight possessions, we got the ball in the paint and scored a layup or kicked it to somebody from a wide open jumper,” Brown said. “Damon Jones initiated two of those with drives.
INJURY UPDATES
Guard Larry Hughes, who has been out almost three months because of a fractured middle finger on his right hand, has been cleared to resume basketball-related activities.
Hughes had his finger examined Tuesday at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore. The exam confirmed the finger is still healing.
Doctors have not cleared Hughes to resume regular practice. The recovery time of eight to 10 weeks issued Feb. 14 remains in place.
The Cavs also said guard Luke Jackson’s broken left wrist is healing as expected and desired. His recovery timeline of seven to eight weeks issued Feb. 9 remains in place. Jackson will have his wrist re-examined Friday.

Great win.

THE CAVS CLINCH THE PLAYOFF BIRTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the magic number is 7 for the wizards and 6 for the pacers.

If we finish 8-3 we clinch and win 50 games. That is what I am shootin' for.

LBJ 16-23 for 46. Now that is what we call effecient.

I also liked Newble coming in and getting physical.

That was a great game.

It got a little testy there in the fourth quarter. Those two fouls on Lebron were bullshit, but the last was something I would expect to see from Rasheed.

It was nice to see Z and Donyell both make an effort to give some back to Dallas rather than letting guys assault LBJ without fear of retribution.

I understand Dallas is frustrated with their defensive performance of late (132 pts given up to the Bucks!), but that is no excuse for that kind of garbage.
