What ya mean filled up the roster? Under the new CBA they now have 14 roster spots. But then again they can be filled with a backup C and a young kid from their summer league.

But what do you trade Gooden for? A more solid PF that is defensive minded and will be happy just cleaning up the boards and hitting layups. (sounds like Wild Thing to me) But, I still think Marshall should not be the starting PF. He is more of a 6th man type that can come off the bench to give us outside shooting.

The ony good thing is Brown has said he would much rather get a gifted shooter and teach him defense than to get a defensive minded player and teach him to shoot. Makes me think he is very confident in his ability to coach and teach players the finer points of defense.
Sorry I'm just looking at the 2 deep and don't see much of a need that would be worth trading Gooden. The other 3 players can be stiffs off of the summer league team for all it will matter. Wild Thing or Traylor (if resigned) would be a better backup C than they could get in a trade. I just want to see Varejao get more time this year whether it's at C or PF. Jerome Moiso didn't look too bad when he was on the team last year as a big body deep on the bench.

C: Z/Varejao
PF: Gooden/Marshall
SF: James/Pavlovic
SG: Hughes/Jackson/Newble
PG: Jasikevicius/Snow

They haven't filled up their roster yet.

They can fill the rest of the roster, and go over the cap , by signing players to minimum contracts.

I guess if they use Varejao as the backup to Z, they wouldn't need to trade Gooden. They could also get additional cap relief if they traded Gooden.

Varejao needs to get more minutes than last year and is a much better defensive player than Gooden, but Gooden's offense coming off the bench would also be nice.

Of course, they still have the bricklayer:Eric Snow.

Just saw this on Yahoo:

Jasikevicius Could Join Cavs

When it comes to this year's free agent crop, the Cavs have been the most active. They added two of the bigger names on the market in Larry Hughes and Donyell Marshall and re-signed center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Now they appear ready to add another piece in and effort to keep LeBron James happy.

Sarunas Jasikevicius, a 6-4 point guard from Lithuania, considered the best player in Europe, is said to be nearing agreement on a three-year $10 million deal with the Cavs. Jasikevicius, 29, who played college ball at Maryland, is an excellent 3-point shooter and competitor. He led his Maccabi Tel Aviv team to the past two Euroleague titles and last summer helped Lithuania upset Team USA at the Athens Olympics.

The Pacers, Jazz, Blazers, Rockets, Mavs and Sonics, among others, all courted Jasikevicius. However, he apparently felt most comfortable with Cleveland, which has fellow Lithuanians Ilgauskas and Martynas Andriuskevicius. All three players hail from the same town in Lithuanian (Kaunas), and Jasikevicius and Ilgauskas are said to be good friends. Jasikevicius was best man at Ilgauskas' wedding last summer.

With Jasikevicius and Marshall, the Cavs boast two more outside shooters to take some pressure off James. Marshall's arrival, meanwhile, also frees up Cleveland to entertain offers for power forward Drew Gooden. The Mavs have reportedly expressed interest in Gooden, and the former Kansas standout will likely be traded there or elsewhere before the summer is complete.

Nope, he signed with the Pacers. He said he took less to play with the Pacers because they had the best chance to win a title.

Looks like Jaric is the next target.

The good news is that no matter who the get to play the point, it will be an upgrade over Snow.

Now it's looking more and more like Damon Jones will be our starting PG next year..

Actually, I'd take Damon Jones over any FA guard on the market.. He is smart, he knows how to win, and most importantly he gives them that behind the arc threat that they so desperately need. Somewhat makes up for what Hughes isn't giving them 3pt % wise. If they fit this puzzle together they could be a scary team next year.

Jones needs to hurry up and sign if he wants to play for the Cavs. It doesn't sound like they are going to wait for him.

Search still on for Cavs at point

Officials hope to slate visits by Dickau, Pargo

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sports writer

The Cavaliers again are headed back to market in search of a point guard.

They lost in a bid for Sarunas Jasikevicius, flirted with but decided to pass on Marko Jaric and, now, appear to be getting tired of waiting for Damon Jones.

Later this week, the Cavaliers are hoping to schedule visits for free-agent point guards Dan Dickau and Jannero Pargo. According to league insiders, they are also believed to be pursuing Steve Blake.

Dickau, who finished last season with the New Orleans Hornets, is an unrestricted free agent. Both Pargo, who last played for the Chicago Bulls, and Blake, who played the last two years for the Washington Wizards, are restricted.

``We're hoping to step up a visit for both Jannero and Dan and see how everyone feels,'' agent Mark Bartelstein, who represents both players, said Tuesday.

The Cavaliers, who have around $3.5 million in salary-cap space left, have an offer on the table for Jones. The 3-point specialist, who visited last week, is also weighing an offer from the Miami Heat. The Cavaliers' decision to speak with other free-agent point guards could be partly aimed at forcing Jones to make a decision.

Dickau has bounced around during his first three seasons in the league, having been traded no less than five times. But he finally found a home last season after being traded to the Hornets, where the former Gonzaga star got his first chance to be a starter. He averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 assists in 67 games with the Hornets last season.

The 6-foot guard who will turn 27 next month was happy in New Orleans but won't retain his starting job now that the Hornets have drafted Wake Forest star Chris Paul.

Pargo averaged 6.4 points and 2.4 assists in 32 games with the Bulls last season. He also played very well in the playoffs against the Wizards, averaging 10.4 points. The Bulls have a week to match an offer sheet to point guard Chris Duhon that the Toronto Raptors signed him to Monday. If they match, as expected, they likely wouldn't match an offer to Pargo.

Blake, a former Maryland star, averaged 4.3 points in 44 games for the Wizards last season. The Wizards already have two point guards, Gilbert Arenas and Antonio Daniels, under contract.

If the Cavaliers end up with one of their three new options, it would hint that they would begin the season with Eric Snow as the starter. Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is expected to give Snow a chance to win the starting job in training camp no matter which point guard is signed.
