Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

I agree about Conley. They just need to keep their eye on him and make a run at him if/when he is put on the block. The roster isn't bad. To me it looks like Eyenga, Jawad, and Green will be fighting to dress for games since only 2 of them can. I'm guessing Danny Green will lose out since Eyenga has more upside. I would like to see Jawad pack on 10-20 lbs. of muscle so that he can be more of a force inside and play some PF if needed. Hollins really needs to get up to 260-280 to be more of a force at C. Right now Andy and Hollins are the only true 5's on the roster and that's debatable.
This would be my lineup with the current players, but I'd have an eye to move Jamison at the very least. If they did I'd look for Jawad and Eyenga to get a decent amount of minutes at the 3.
Starters: Mo, Sessions, Jamison, JJ, Andy
Backups: Boobie, Parker, Moon, Powe, Hollins
Other Bench guys: Eyenga, Jawad, Green

If this were a college team with that kind of athleticism and depth I'd full court press the whole game.

what happened to Green, that dude had a pretty sweet stroke and was pretty damn good in college, was it just a case of poor competition? I was pretty pumped when we got him in the second round ( I thought it was a steal)

I don't have anything against Green. To me it's just a matter of depth and I don't know if he brings anything that is better than the 12 guys in front of him. If they start unloading guys like Mo, Parker, Jamison, etc I could see Green getting more minutes. IMO the roster is stacked with good players, but no great ones. This season will be a success for failure based on hustle and teamwork.

I think the Cavs will have a roster that will allow them to compete for a playoff spot. The Cavs should also benefit from the division they play in. I think Chicago has to be the favorite to win the Central, but I don't think they're a lock by any means. Finish a game better than them and Milwaukee, and suddenly you're looking at a 4-seed.

I know it's a dream, but the Cavs don't have to win a championship before the Heat to make LeBron look bad. Win the Central, get the 4-seed, beat Atlanta in the first round and suddenly the rump Cavaliers will have gone as far on their own as LeBron was willing to take them last year.

yea i agree totally here...i think green loses out because in the summer league games i watched he seemed to be having the hardest time adjusting to the new uptemo style of play which resulted in multiple turnovers...i could see scott switching DNP's with green and eyenga...williams already showed last year he could produce when given minutes

i like the starting 5...i would have this as my starting 5 as well...hopefully scott doesnt fall into the same trap mike brown did with falling in love with anthony parker in the starting 5...and I hope we move Jamison before the trade deadline to a contender, especially if were not in contention for the playoffs...i feel bad for jamison and feel he deserves one more chance to get a title shot...with his contract situation this year (i believe hes in the final year of his 2 year deal) it would save us alot of money on the cap and allow eyenga and others to get more minutes and develop...i just hope when we do get rid of jamison its not of the Paul Gasol/Kwame Brown type of deals

I think things are different now with the queen gone. They went after Sessions for a reason and it wasn't to backup Mo. I like Mo and Sessions together, likely with Mo playing more SG.
In order to get out of Jamison's contract I would give him up for a similar deal to what they got him for. 1st round pick and expiring contract. If you could somehow swing a young player in the deal all the better. In the Ferry/Grant era the Cavs have never seemed to come out on the bad end of any trades.

yea we have done more of the robbing then anything...getting mo for damon jones, getting jamison for draft picks and Z, getting shaq for ben wallace and sasha palvovic, the delonte, szerbiak and ben wallace trade...the only thing they have struck out big time on are FA signings...larry hughes, donyell marshall, damon jones, i guess you could say parker and moon but the jury is still out

Isn't there alot of talk about Jamison coming off the bench as the sixth man?
Contract-wise, I thought he's under contract for this season and next.

I'd like to see Jawad get more minutes.

I still don't think they're a playoff team, nor do I want them to be. We know top free agents won't come here so they have to get good draft picks, hit on them, and continue to keep making trades.

Selfishly I would like to see them make the playoffs just so everyone would see that it was not the organization not surrounding him.... it was him. I say get T Mac and lets roll haha....

I agree, this team is an 8 seed type at best and I think it would serve them better to just start over with young players. They should take their lumps for a few years, get some decent draft picks and then try to fill the holes with free agents. What they're doing now is just going to guarantee consistent mediocrity.

byron scott said at summer league he is going to put that idea out there of having jamison come off the bench...if he actually does it and if jamison agrees with it is still yet to be seen

This is the Cavs current roster minus Ramon and Hollins and the guys traded are in the green. This team is in the rebuilding mode. If the Cavs are not competing for a playoff spot come mid-season, it would not surprise me in the least to see Andy, Jamison and/or Williams traded to a contender for youth and/or picks. Andy is the only one I don't see going elsewhere due to his contract. The only four that I keep and build around is Eynga, Hickson, Hollins, and Ramon. Build through the draft and this team can be competing again in two to three years. Just my two cents.

I don't think they would have any trouble moving Andy if they wanted to, but he would be on my list of players that I want to keep. I would need a halfway decent first round pick or a very promising young player to trade him.

I noticed that there has been a lot of talk about Jawad Williams but first they have to get him signed for next year and I have heard that Miami has been calling.

I think Joey Graham would be a nice addition. He doesn't score a ton, or much at all, but he is a solid defensive player and a all around good athlete. I can remember watching him when he played at Oklahoma State.

The Cavs may make another roster move this week. They have been in advancing talks with free-agent small forward Joey Graham. A defensive specialist who will likely be a backup, Graham averaged 4.2 points in 63 games with the Denver Nuggets last season.

The team is also believed to be interested in re-signing forward Jawad Williams, who has a $1.03 million one-year qualifying offer on the table.

ex, if someone comes calling for Andy I want much more for him than you would be willing to take. I would take a very high first-round draft choice or a young player who could come in and step on the court and get some minutes. I view Andy as one of the few guys that is worth keeping because he brings so much energy to the team and he is slowly becoming a leader. Without him, the Cavaliers would not have much depth in the middle and I don't know what they would do for rebounding and defense.

i think the cavs can offer more for jawad then miami can...and i would think jawad would get more PT with us but i guess i could be wrong about that since miami's depth isnt that deep...and im glad were going after joey graham who is the better of the graham brothers...i would hate to see us get steven again
