Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

At this point, I don't know how it could hurt to sign this kid to a contract and get him playing over here... maybe i'm missing something.

I guess it depends what you think he can bring to the table now. His NBA clock doesn't start until they sign him so if he isn't going to see much pt this year it would be better to keep him in the minors for another year. If the Cavs coaching staff doesn't think he is getting the right coaching in Europe it would be better to bring him over now and at least get him coached up. From what I know now I would have no problem with him spending another year in Europe, which will allow the Cavs to get rid of some of the congestion at the SG/SF.

Where did Windhorst say this? Here's what he says on the matter in his latest article:

Thwarted in bid for Lowry, Cleveland Cavaliers continue search for up-tempo point guard | cleveland.com

Also in that article:

I would LOVE to see Conley running Byron Scott's offense in Cleveland. That would be one way to recapture some excitement in the Cavs.

I must have misinterpreted what I read. I guess Shaq is actually trying to get it done...

Be it the summer league....

Hickson dropped 34 on the Suns squad tonight

If he can get consistent, he can obviously be our main guy at the moment.

Eyenga is still rough around the edges but I think he'll be playing this year. Rebounding and defense need some work.

if lebron was here and we were contending for the title this year he would be back in Europe since we wouldnt have much use for him and he could get more PT in europe....and i think that we wouldnt have to pay him...could be wrong on that...i think we should bring him here and at the worst we could have him play for our D-league team...we would have to pay him but id rather have him play in the d-league then sit the bench for us the entire year...i guess thats why we have the tough choice of letting him go to europe or play here since they want him to develop and get as much PT as possible....and maybe his competition is alot better in Europe then if he played here in the D-league...i just dont want him to come to the cavs and become coby karl where he is the team cheerleader

I think they're doing the prudent thing with Eyenga and taking their time this summer. They get to see him up close in the summer league and see exactly where he is developmentally. It also gives them time to continue to work on other player personnel matters - which may have as much impact on where Eyenga plays as anywhere else.

Perhaps they move some salaries to allow for sufficient playing time for him. Perhaps they acquire somebody who can fill his role for a year or two to allow Eyenga to continue to work on his game. Perhaps they acquire the perfect complementary piece to Eyenga and decide now is the time to bring him over.

If they could get Conley, I'd LOVE to see any lineup with Conley-Eyenga-Hickson. I don't know if they could defend, but they might be able to run a lot of poor & middling teams ragged in a race to 120 points each night.

Agreed even if he is a little rough, I still say sign him, let him take his lumps and learn from the "best in the business" (not sure everyone in the NBA could be consider the best... I firmly believe if I was 6'10" with marginal athletic ability I'd be playing in the NBA)

It seems that Memphis is unhappy with Conley, and I would take Conley over Mo Williams in a heartbeat (especially given the large difference between their two contracts). I also like Conley better than Lowry. A starting five of Conley, Parker, Jamison, Hickson, and Varejo = fun, high scoring basketball.

No. In fact, since the Cavs haven't renounced the rights to any of their free agents either, they're still OVER the cap.

The reason for that is that cutting players or renouncing the rights their free agents would eat into the value of the trade exception in the s&t with the Heat for LeBron. I think I read somewhere that the added value of doing it this way is in the neighborhood of a few million dollars that they can use to acquire players.

Delonte should get suspended for a few games, but will remain valuable as a trade chip because of his non-guaranteed contract. He's worth more the Cavs if they can trade him to another team that wants to cut him.
