Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Are you joking aroung around? I can't tell.

Joe Alexander will never play the 2 in his entire NBA career. He's a 3 or 4. 3, maybe on a team wanting to go half-court and bang it out. A 4 on a team willing to run you to death.

What will the Bucks philosophy be??

I think they're going to try and push it and see if Alexander works at the 4.

He certainly won;t get any looks at the 2.

I decided not to say anything, with that philosophy I figured they changed position numbers in the NBA without me knowing.

Yeah, Portland is scary.

Redd is pretty much a non-option anymore. Anybody think of any other star that would be a slight possibility to make my LeBrons' Pippen dream come alive?

I don't see the Bucks trying to run with Scott Skiles as their head coach.

Redd becomes an option again in-season if the Bucks suck again.

Now watch them pick CD-R right here just to fuck with us Cavs fans...

Maybe Skiles learned his style sucked in Chicago...I don't know.

But Joe Alexander and Richard Jefferson are both #3's in this league, with Alexander being capable of running the #4. Neither are #2's. I think it's very possible with Andrew Bogut anchoring the middle, that Joe Alexander and his ridiculous hops play the 4 position with Jefferson at the 3 and Redd plays the 2.

Their new, potential line-up is easily good enough to get them to the play-offs.

NBA 4's will hand Joe Alexander his lunch. No knees Joe Smith would school him on the block all night. Alexander and Jefferson are no different. the bucks still have no legit size or skill down low, outside of bogut. they aren't playoff caliber yet.

Why in the fuck do the Cavs keep hiring morons as their GMs? I'm baffled right now.

When you only have Lebron James for two more years, why the hell would you draft a project freshman?

I'm convinced that Ferry is on the Nets' payroll, because he can't possibly be that dumb.

That's laughable because Alexander and Jefferson are very differnt. Jefferson can handle the rock out at the perimeter. He isn't a 2 guard but he can penetrate from the perimeter.

Joe Alexander cannot do that in the NBA. His handle is weak. He can get away with at the 3, he can run the court like Boris Diaw at the 4.

Not saying Skiles will try and be the new Phoenix Suns, but if he wants to play Jefferson and Alexander at the same time, Alexander has to play the 4.

Maybe he just wants a good back-up to Jefferson and "No-eyebrows" is still in the plans.

I really don't know wha they're trying to do, buty I do know Alexander cannot play the 2 guard in the NBA.

Heard they tried to draft Nash but Phoenix was pissed

He'll play the two before he plays the four. He could play it for spurts in the NBA, but no way he can consistently play power forward in the NBA. I guarantee it.

i never said alexander can play the 2. in fact RJ is not good at the 2 either. both are 3's in the NBA that can't band down low. aside from RJ being able to handle the ball a bit better, their games are quite similar. it still doesn't quite explain the pick given the trade they made earlier, and who was on the board at the time. and, i'll belive skiles runs something other than a half court offense when I see it.

I still can't believe people want to put Alexander at the four. Never mind the fact that he'll get abused defensively. What about Bogut? They'll basically be leaving him on an island all by himself. I can't see Alexander being able to provide much of anything with help defense. He'll get abused on the boards too by much taller players.

Even in Phoenix's system where Diaw SOMETIMES plays PF, they don't play with a small PF most of the game. Diaw played more small forward last year than he did PF.

Alexander is a natural three. Jefferson is a natural three. Alexander will be backing up Jefferson. He will not be their starting power forward.

Forward Hickson is pick for Cavs
N.C. State freshman is athletic, can play in post and on wing
By David Lee Morgan Jr.
Beacon Journal sportswriter

INDEPENDENCE: J.J. Hickson played just one season in college, but he has the kind of upside the Cavaliers were looking for in a post player.
With that in mind, the Cavs made Hickson, 19, a 6-foot-9 forward from North Carolina State, their first-round pick (19th overall) in the 2008 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Hickson led North Carolina State in scoring (14.8 points a game) and rebounding (8.5) last season and was 10th in scoring in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry said Hickson's selection was all about filling a need inside.
''We're really excited that J.J. was available for us,'' Ferry said as he spoke briefly to reporters before returning to his office to further monitor the draft. ''Bringing a young big into our group I think was really

Associated PressThe Cavs' first-round pick, 19-year-old J.J. Hickson, is a 6-9 power forward out of North Carolina State. He averaged 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds last season for the Wolfpack.

When the Cavaliers sat down after the season and assessed their needs, their top priority was to introduce some youth to their front line.
Hello, J.J. Hickson.
The Cavs selected the 19-year-old freshman from N.C. State with the 19th pick in the NBA draft Thursday night.
"I was at a loss for words,'' Hickson said when asked about the chance to play alongside LeBron James. "I am going to be a sponge and soak it up. He's the best athlete in the league now.''
After weeks of rumors about trading up or trading away the pick as part of a package to obtain a veteran like former Ohio State star Michael Redd, the Cavs decided that the best way to improve their team on Thursday was to bring in the 6-foot-9, 242-pound forward who led the Wolfpack with 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season, tops among all ACC freshmen.
