Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

I would like the idea of bringing in McDyess. Yeah Hickson would get much time, but McDyess brings a vetran presence and can step back and hit a jumper...

It would allow us the cushion for injury(knock on wood) to one of Ben or Z and also would allow us to put Andy at the 5 and get production out of the 4 position...

Not sure quite how much money, but one thing I don't want is him going back to the Pistons or going to Boston...

Actually Cleveland is in a position to offer McDyess the most money as we have most of our mid-level exception available ($5 mil) whereas Detroit & Boston have only $1-$2 million available.

But the move would be solid. Gives us a big that can score and more importantly can make sure Wallace & AV aren't on the floor at the same time.

the real question is whether or not money is the motivating factor.

with the typical cleveland luck he'll take less to play in detroit or boston, since must players spurn cleveland to chase $$$, when the time comes where cleveland holds the upper hand in that category, some sort of team loyalty will prevail.

While you are most likely 100% accurate our only hope is he and Ben Wallace got along really well and Ben can talk the Cavs up.

Plus he can't go back to Detroit for 30 days.

It's Z for threeee! Cavs fans go wild Center Ilgauskas' rare shot is talk of the team
By George M. Thomas
Beacon Journal sports writer

INDEPENDENCE: The talk after Thursday's practice wasn't about the impressive 107-93 win the Cavaliers had over the Chicago Bulls the previous night at Quicken Loans Arena.
It centered around a shot made by Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
In the words and tone of the immortal Rod Serling: Picture, if you will, a 7-3 man out on the left wing, just beyond the 3-point arc. He gets the ball from one LeBron James and launches a shot that hits nothing but net. Yes, you have entered ? The Twilight Zone.
But that was no fantasy. That was reality for Ilgauskas, and it made a raucous crowd even more so. It was Ilgauskas' first 3-pointer in four years, he said.
''That's a designed play, so when he's open for that corner 3, he's allowed to let it fly,'' coach Mike Brown said. '' 'Bron knows it. Z knows it. So does the rest of the team.''
It shouldn't be a surprise that Brown would express confidence in his veteran center. Ilgauskas is usually accurate within 18 feet of the basket.
''They always told me practice, practice over the summer, then it goes away,'' Ilgauskas joked.

It's a long shot, but Cavaliers say 3-pointers could become a part of Z's A-game

Tracy Boulian/PDZydrunas Ilgauskas is still getting used to being a 3-point 'threat.'
Zydrunas Ilgauskas was starting to get a little carried away. "All-Star [Shootout], here I come," he said, joking.
We think.
"I'm the best 3-point shooter on the team right now -- 50 percent," he added, laughing.
Technically, Delonte West owns that honor, having made 12 of 22 for 54.5 percent. But we could nitpick this to death. Ilgauskas definitely is the best 7-foot-3 3-point shooter on the team after hitting one in the home victory over Chicago on Wednesday.
"I don't think we'll be running Z off screens for threes," sharpshooter Daniel Gibson said with a smile. "But it will come occasionally, and when he gets it, he'll be ready to knock them down."

All kidding aside, it's entirely possible that Ilgauskas will be shooting more 3-pointers than ever. Before this season, he had taken 37 in his 10-year career, making five, none since the 2004-05 season. Most have come out of desperation with the shot clock or the game clock expiring.
But he's a good jump shooter out to about 20 feet, so coach Mike Brown figured they'd take advantage of that -- and the element of surprise.

While I don't want to see Z starting to put up 3's consistently, I'm certainly not opposed to having him stand anywhere in the 15-20 ft range and have a pg drive and kick out to him for the wide open shot. Aside from maybe Gibson, Z may be the teams best shooter from that range. Of course, he's usually wide open from there because the defended is down below.

The defense and rebounding for this team has been great so far. I may be wrong, but I think they have won the battle of the boards in every game so far. Regardless of their shooting, if they can keep their turnovers down, I see no reason to believe that this team cannot win 57-60 games.

For future refrence any game not on national TV can be seenon FSOhio, and sometimes FSOhio also covers the games on national TV.

Before they had FSN HD, in my region at least, it was a battle between the Blue Jackets and the Cavaliers for who was on TV. I think tonight would have been the same way but they split the games between SD and HD.
