Cavs looking to add big man Team close to signing veteran Lorenzen Wright

The Cavaliers might be close to adding another piece to their roster.
Looking for depth and experience on their front line, a league source said, the team is near a deal with veteran big man Lorenzen Wright. A contract could be completed in the next few days.
Wright spent last season with the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings, playing in 18 games overall. He averaged 0.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
The Cavs talked to him last summer before he signed with the Hawks and later was traded.
The 6-foot-11 veteran of 12 NBA seasons can play forward or center and has been a solid rebounder during his career. His career averages are 8.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
If a contract is completed, Wright would be an insurance policy for the Cavs, who have been down a big man since trading Joe Smith in a package for point guard Mo Williams last month.

I'm going to guess he means going into the season. I'm guessing his playing time will mostly depend on his willingness to play defense in camp. Unlike past players that played well in summer ball, he just showed that he had IT. Lord knows, they're going to need offense from the position, especially backing up Wallace and Wild Thing.

The Cavaliers signed center Lorenzen Wright to help offset the loss of forward Joe Smith, who was part of a three-team deal that brought guard Mo Williams to Cleveland.

Wright,6 feet 11 and 255 pounds, played 12 games for Atlanta and five for Sacramento last season, averaging less than a point and 2.1 rebounds.

Wright, 33, has averaged 8.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 761 career games. He also has appeared in 15 postseason games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed forward Darnell Jackson.

The Cavaliers acquired the rights to Jackson, 22, from Miami during this year's NBA draft for one of Cleveland's two second-round picks in 2009.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound forward averaged 11.2 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds in 40 games during his senior year at Kansas. He played a key role in the Jayhawks' run to the NCAA championship earlier this year.
Jackson played for the Cavaliers during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. In five games, he averaged 5.8 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Do you mean for this season or his career ? To be honest I have high expectations for his career and I think he will be able to contribute as a decent bench man this year too.

I think he's raw and will be exposed as alot early on. I expect flashes of potential surrounded by evidence of his greenness, much like with any young rookie.... I love his longterm potential, and believe in my heart he will eventually ascend into being a core piece as our future scoring low post presence for the next decade or so.....but, the question is ...how long will it take for him to ascend to that level.

Newest Cavalier Mo Williams getting to know Cleveland

Friday, September 12, 2008 Mary Schmitt Boyer
Plain Dealer Reporter

Mo Williams has been busy getting to know Cleveland, and the Cavaliers' new point guard wants fans to get to know him, too.
That's why he took part in an online chat on the Cavs' Web site Thursday. According to Web site manager Jeff Lillibridge, nearly 450 questions were sent in since the chat was announced earlier this week, an all-time high.
Williams - who got one ques tion from his brother Mike and another from someone claiming to be Damon Jones - was able to an swer only about 25 of them in the 20-minute chat that followed his workout at Cleveland Clinic Courts, but he figures it was a good start. An outgoing guy, he doesn't mind sharing his time with his new team and community.

Cavaliers sign guard Delonte West - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Cavaliers sign guard Delonte West

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer 1 hour, 9 minutes ago

CLEVELAND (AP)?Two prolonged contract holdouts early last season hurt the Cleveland Cavaliers, damaging their chances of getting back to the NBA finals.

They made sure it wouldn?t happen again.

The club signed restricted free agent guard Delonte West to a two-year contract Friday, a deal that includes a third-year club option for 2011-12.

Financial terms were not immediately known. West and his representatives had been seeking a deal worth $5 millon per season.

Good move 4 to 5 mil a year for 2 years with at team option for a third. Now the Cavs have 3 guys that can play PG, which is better than at any time in the Lebron era.
