Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Seattle Post-Intelligencer: NBA
Cavs acquire draft rights to F Preldzic

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the draft rights to forward Emir Preldzic from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for cash considerations.

"Emir is a talented and versatile player that plays multiple positions for his team in Turkey. We are pleased to have his rights and look forward to getting to know him more," Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said.

Preldzic was taken 57th overall by the Suns during Thursday's NBA draft. The 21-year-old played the past two seasons with Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul of the Turkish League and averaged 8.8 points on 51 percent shooting, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 24 games last year.

The 6-foot-9 forward also averaged 7.3 points on 45.6 percent shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 16 games during Euroleague play. He has also played in the Slovenian League (2004-2007) and Adriatic League (2006-07).

I didn't say better overall. I said better for the Magic meaning Turk is a better fit for the team.
I agree, specifically better match-up for the Cavs. As someone else said, this hopefully will work out as Carter for Lee/Alston/Turk/Battie trade.

If nothing else, Delonte is a better match-up against Carter than Turk. Allowing LBJ to guard Lewis more. In two days I believe our Eastern Conference chances have improved.

We are a better team now than before the draft and Shaq trade, I am very curious to see what we do in free agency. It seems to me that they are going to try to re-sign AV, go after a wing player and possibly another big.

They could if he would take 6 mil a year. Because of the cap all they can spend is the MLE. The only teams that can sign Turk would have to be at least 10 mil under the cap. I just hope the MLE is enough to get Charlie V.

Syracuse University's Paul Harris will play on Cleveland Cavaliers' summer league team - Today - syracuse.com

Here is some pre-draft info on Paul:

DraftExpress NBA Draft Prospect Profile: Paul Harris, Stats, Comparisons, and Outlook

Out of all the players here, Paul Harris may have left the best impression on us relative to our expectations going in. Harris is incredibly impressive from a physical standpoint first and foremost, boasting a chiseled frame, strong athleticism and extremely long arms, but he also looked pretty good from a skills standpoint as well.

Harris has been working quite a bit on his shooting mechanics over the past few weeks with shooting coach Tim Sullivan, and the results were fairly impressive from what we were able to see. He made shots at a pretty good rate (much better than we thought he would at least), both spotting up and off the dribble. While his ball-handling skills looked improvable, it?s pretty safe to say that no one is going to sign him for what he does on the offensive end of the floor.

Defensively is where Harris really shined, showing absolute lock-down ability on anyone he was asked to guard, and really making his presence felt with his combination of toughness and tenacity. The theme of this year?s NBA playoffs for us probably is just how incredibly physical the games are, and if there was any player that embodied that spirit in this gym, it was Harris. Mike Procopio compares him to the likes of Tony Allen and DeShawn Stevenson, and after seeing him in action in this setting, it wasn?t hard to see why.

This summer they need to focus on working on D with these pups. It sounds like Harris and Green are already good defenders and they talk up Jackson's D a lot as well. Hopefully these guys can get JJ's head on straight so that he can contribute this season assuming that he's healthy. I hope Boobie is still eligible for summer league as well so that he can get his game back.

Charlie V has been intimating all offseason about his desire to play with the Cavs. Obviously his agent has explained to him that all we have to offer is the mid-level exception. Maybe that means he doesn't care.

the bucks officially have stated they won't be giving him a qualifying offer, which is for $4.6 million. also, technically, i think cleveland can use the biennial exception with CV as well, which means they can offer somewhere around $2 million more than the MLE.

I doubt he gets a contract for much more than the MLE anyway, as there are only a handful of teams with ample cap room that have shown any interest, primarily OKC and Detroit, the latter being a total trainwreck.

Time for Charlie to put his money where his mouth is. There might be one or two bad teams that are willing to pay him more than the MLE, but if he wants to start for a winning team the Cavs are his choice. If he does want to come to Cleveland Ferry better do what he has to to sign him.

Unfortunately you cannot combine the BAE and MLE. You can split the MLE and BAE among multiple players, though.

didn't know that you couldn't combine the two. i figured since they could be split, they could be combined. still, i see CV signing here for maybe a short term deal so he can really cash in later.
